Ronny Voth Leads 27 Survivors After Day 1a

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Ronny Voth
Ronny Voth

The first of four starting days of the €225+€25 PokerNews Cup Main Event at the King's Casino is completed. In the last edition of this very event at Europe's card room in the center of Europe, Day 1a drew 98 entries and that number has been eclipsed to put the tournament well on it's way to meet the guaranteed prize pool of €200,000.

After 14 levels of 30 minutes each, the field of 156 entries has been whittled down all the way to 27 survivors and Germany's Ronny Voth leads with a massive stack of 391,000. Voth was a big stack after the elimination of Quincy Chun and also knocked out Karl-Heinz Oppermann at the end to jump into the top spot. Alexander Rettenbacher registered late and scooped a big pot with a set of queens in a three-way all in, another set of tens in the last level of the night saw the Austrian bag up 365,500. Lithuania's Ričardas Vymeris completes the overnight podium with 301,500 followed by Israel's Constantine Gorinson (289,500).

Three players bagged up 279,500: Benas Kuzmickas and Matas Čikinas from Lithuania as well as Richard Schaaser. Other big stacks and notables include Daniel Turrisi (190,500), Lukáš Svoboda (157,500), King's regular Zarathustra (128,000) and Marek Blasko (90,000). Among those to join the rail were Aleksei Ivanov, Hüseyin Arkun, Thomas Zurek, Scott Hanna, Sebastian Langrock and Serok Kilic. They can all reenter the competition again in any of the three remaining starting days.

Day 1b kicks off tomorrow at 5 p.m. local time and there is also a €35+€5 Turbo Satellite two hours prior with at least 10 seats up for grabs. Two other Side Events are scheduled on Friday also: The €100+€10 Pot-Limit Omaha with single rebuy or add on gets underway as of 7 p.m. local time. Furthermore, the €90+€10 Ticket & Cash Event starts at 8 p.m. local time and offers a prize pool of €10,000 in cash as well as 15 Main Event tickets, every player in the money will receive an entry into the Main Event.

The festival at the King's Casino continues until next Monday, August 15th, and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to cover all the action until a Main Event champion is crowned.

Karl-Heinz Oppermann Eliminated; Ronny Voth Takes Lead

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Karl-Heinz Oppermann
Karl-Heinz Oppermann

In one of the last hands of the day, Ronny Voth raised and picked up two callers including Karl-Heinz Oppermann. The flop came {9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and action was checked to Voth, who bet 12,400 into around 34,000. The third player in the hand folded, but Oppermann moved all in for 80,000 after some consideration and Voth snap-called.

Oppermann: {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Voth: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

Oppermann was in dire need of a nine to avoid elimination, but it was all over with the {A-Spades} turn, making the {J-Spades} river a formality.

Huge Double for Benas Kuzmickas

Ashot Oganesian
Ashot Oganesian

On the three-way flop of {J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-}, Karl-Heinz Oppermann checked in the small blind, as did Ashot Oganesian in the big blind. Benas Kuzmickas on the button bet 7,500 and Oppermann called. Oganesian then check-raised to 22,000 and just Kuzmickas called.

After the {A-Spades} turn, Oganesian immediately moved all in and Kuzmickas then called after some consideration with {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for aces and fives. Oganesian only had {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a pair of jacks and the {9-Clubs} river was a blank. Kuzmickasdoubled up for 85,100 and Oganesian was left with very few chips, busted shortly after.

Scott Hanna Busts a Second Time

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Scott Hanna
Scott Hanna

A player in late position raised to 3,500 and Tony Da Silva Marques called from two seats over. Scott Hanna then moved all in for his last 22,800 and the initial raiser folded. Marques however called and Hanna was behind.

Hanna: {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Marques: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts} and failed to improve Hanna. On the {6-Spades} turn, he said "I need a four. I need a queen, I need a ten and reentry, damn," Hanna finished his comments, as the {10-Spades} river completed the board to eliminate the American.

Alex Rettenbacher and Richard Schaaser Among Biggest Stacks

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Alex Rettenbacher
Alex Rettenbacher

Richard Schaaser limped from early position, as did Alex Rettenbacher from the cutoff. The player in the small blind three-bet to 4,100 and EDDY in the big blind then reraised all in for around 75,000. Schaaser folded while Rettenbacher called all in for 50,000. The small blind called off his last 20,000 also.

Small blind: {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Rettenbacher: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
EDDY: {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}

The flop came {Q-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} and Schaaser mentioned that he had folded {K-Spades}{3-Spades}, which would have made a flush. The {3-Diamonds} turn and {2-Clubs} river completed the board and Rettenbacher doubled through EDDY with a full house, busting the small blind also.

EDDY had around 25,000 left after that and those chips soon went to Schaaser.

Bartel Kars

Former big stack Tippy333 has been eliminated after plenty of action on his table. Before his last hand, he was down to around 22,000 chips and got into a three-way pot to the {9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades} turn. With around 9,000 in the middle, Bartel Kars bet 6,000 and the player from one seat over called.

Tippy333 then moved all in for around 20,000 and Kars said in table chat "you either have seven-eight or nothing. Okay, I am all in," Kars then added and his table neighbor also quickly moved all in with the biggest stack of the three, showing {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}.

"Oh wow, I didn't expect that," Kars said and showed {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} while Tippy333 had some outs with {K-Spades}{8-Spades}. The {6-Diamonds} river improved Kars to trips sixes and he doubled through the third player in the hand for 25,150, while Tippy333 hit the rail.
