Five More Down

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Among those to bust were Dmitry Vitkind, Luigi Shehadeh and Mihails Morozovs. The latter got it in with king-queen against the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} of [Removed:146] and flopped an open-ended straight draw. Both the turn and river were blanks, though, and that spelled the end for Morozovs.

Graells Doubles, Leaves Ascensao Short

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Ricardo Graells from Switzerland got it in with {A-Spades}{K-Spades} up against the {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs} of Nuno Pereira Ascensao. The latter did not improve enough as the king he hit improved Graells more: {6-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Ascensao thought he was done but it turned out he had 23,000 more than the 230,000 Graells had.

Richardson Soars to Big Stack

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Benjamin Richardson won a big pot off Rosen Angelov with trips sixes to leave the former big stack with spare change and Angelov's stack took another hit soon after.

Angelov shoved from the small blind and Johnny Hansen called in the big blind for 171,000 with the {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. Angelov only had {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and the board came {K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}.

Just prior to that, Dirk Gerritse doubled another short stack on the same table. Niek Minten three-bet shoved for 141,000 with {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and Gerritse called with {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. The board came {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Minten survived.

Wellenbach Finishes the Job

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Scott Wellenbach first doubled and then took most of Akin Tuna's chips in 2 big hands right before the break, and just finished the job by taking the remainder as well. Tuna made his last move with {A-}{10-} and Wellenbach was waiting for him with {A-}{K-}. No ten or other help for Tuna on the flop, turn, or river. Tuna, who had 1.3 million 5 hours ago, now out of the tournament.

The Story of Tuna and Wellenbach

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Akin Tuna
Akin Tuna

When we received the official counts in the break, we learned we had a new chipleader: Scott Wellenbach. Akin Tuna, a one-time chip leader, was down to just a few big blinds meanwhile.

We asked table mate Pim Kuipers who told us of 2 hands where Wellenbach beat Tuna.

1) Tuna opened the hijack and Wellenbach called on the button. Tuna bet the flop ({J-}{5-}{2-}), turn ({5-}) and 100,000 on the river ({4-}). Wellenbach called the flop and turn and raised to 300,000 on the river. Tuna called but mucked as Wellenbach showed {9-}{5-} suited for trips.

2) Wellenbach opened and Tuna called out of position. Tuna check-called a bet of {A-}{9-}{7-} and checked again on a blank on the turn. Wellenbach checked behind and a {4-} completed the board. Tuna checked and Wellenbach bet 100,000. Tuna called but had to muck once again as Wellenbach showed {4-}{4-}.

Guerfi and Roed Double

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Ramon Miquel Munoz raised to 25,000 and [Removed:146] shoved for 251,000 from one seat over. Arezki Belaidi reshoved and Munoz let go.

[Removed:146]: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Arezki Belaidi: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The board came {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and Guerfi doubled.

Former big stack Frederico Spilimbergo Volpe has taken yet another hit when he called the shove of Kent Roed for 202,000 with the {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} out of the blinds. Roed had the better kicker with {A-Spades}{10-Hearts} and the board came {J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Spades}.

Wanzi Bests de Vicente

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Nadia Wanzi had Javier de Vicente all in and at risk for 169,000 and showed {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}. While the Spaniard was ahead with {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, that suddenly changed on the golden flop of {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} with Wanzi improving to a straight. Suddenly de Vicente needed a king to avoid elimination, but the {3-Hearts} turn and {5-Diamonds} river were both blanks.
