Vivian Lundgren Wins Event #7: $400 No-Limit Hold'em $50K Guarantee For $15,685

Level 26 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Event #7 Winner Vivian Lundgren
Event #7 Winner Vivian Lundgren

After nearly 26 levels in what turned out to be a marathon day, Vivian Lundgren emerged victorious in Event #7: $400 No-Limit Hold'em after navigating a 176-entry field and besting Sang Kim heads-up for not only her first-ever title — but her first-ever live cash as well.

Lundgren, a local of Maryland, said she has played several live events prior, but had never cashed in any of them until today — making today's victory all the sweeter.

"I told them [Lundgren's friends in the poker groups she belongs to] that I was gonna win it today. Let's go!"

Lundgren, who said she is more experienced playing online, eliminated three players during the final table and made quick work out of Sang once heads-up given the large chip discrepancy between them.

"I've played many final tables online," Lundgren said. "I was very confident in my strategy at the final table."

Action of The Day

Event #7: $400 No-Limit Hold'em began with 31 players and looked like it might have an overlay given the low numbers to start the day. However, by the time late registration ended, the field had grown to 176 entrants, generating a $58,080 prize pool. Many notables entered the event but fell short of the money, including Lara Eisenberg, Justin Arnwine, Event #1 winner Isiah Ditoto and Yaser Al-Keliddar, who busted just short of the money after running ace-jack into the ace-queen of Tony Hulbert.

The bubble burst after a short-stacked Scott Panozzo got all in with king-jack suited against two opponents and failed to improve.

Eliminations came fast and furious after the money bubble and the remaining field was reduced down to a final table within three levels.

Joe Crowley entered the final table with a respectable lead over his opponents and continued to ride his momentum by knocking out Adam Jones (seventh place) and Sonny Lee (sixth place) in quick succession after the shortest stacks had already busted. However, Cowley's fortunes started to turn after Lundgren doubled through Cowley in a blind-versus-blind confrontation. From that point, Ludgren began to chip up considerably and would ultimately eliminate Cowley after Cowley three-bet shove with king-ten into Lundgren's ace-king.

Kim, who managed to double up after getting short on several occasions throughout the final table, entered heads-up at an over five-to-one chip deficit to Lundgren. Kim managed to double up once against Lundgren, but it wasn't enough and Kim eventually fell to Lundgren after losing a race with pocket nines against the ace-king of Lundgren.

That wraps up PokerNews coverage of Event #7: $400 No-Limit Hold'em. Be sure to check in for coverage of our next event, Event #9: $1,200 No-Limit Freezeout on February 2 at 11 a.m. as the Potomac Winter Poker Open rolls on!
