Hanley Takes Monster Lead Into Day 2 of the Thursday Thrilla

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Valerie Hanley
Valerie Hanley

Run It Up Reno IX held the biggest edition of the $1,100 Thursday Thrilla in the history of Run It Up today, with 224 entrants hitting the felt, blowing past the advertised $150,000 Guarantee. After the dust had settled from just over 18 levels of play, just nine players will return tomorrow at 2 p.m. local time. Valerie Hanley will be returning with the chip lead, as her 1,316,000 stack is the only one cresting a million heading to the final day.

Hanley's path to the final table was littered with big names, as she first sent Run It Up Founder Jason Somerville home in 15th in a crazy three-way hand. Later, she hit a straight to crack CSOP founder Matt Stout's set of jacks, before eventually eliminating him in 13th, then later, she hit a set to send popular poker vlogger Andrew Neeme out in 11th.

The rest of the final table is all fairly close together chipwise, with Phil Beesley, Adam Johnson, Ashley Sleeth, and Jeremy Pekarek all within two big blinds of each other. Lucas Hill and Max Young both are making their second appearance at a Run It Up Reno IX final table, while Patrick Preston and Ryan Meyer round out the final table of nine. All nine players start with over 20 big blinds for Day 2 action, promising viewers on Twitch plenty of action all day long.

Plenty of stars came out to try their hand at snatching a few $500 bounties, and some of those that failed to earn a cash out of the regular tournament prize pool include a plethora of WSOP bracelet winners, including Chad Holloway, David "Bakes" Baker, Kevin Gerhart, and Ronnie Bardah. Former Thursday Thrilla champ Mark Mazza also was unable to cash, and Garry Gates, Adam Owen, and Jamie Kerstetter were some other notables to fall short.

Tomorrow's Day 2 will begin at 2 p.m. local time, with the Run It Up Twitch stream starting at 5 p.m. local time. The PokerNews live blog will sync up with the dynamic live stream, so follow all the action both on Twitch and right here on the blog as we crown this year's Thursday Thrilla champ!

Matthew Moreno Eliminated in 10th Place ($3,000)

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Matthew Moreno
Matthew Moreno

At the feature table, "Young" Matthew Moreno was all in before the flop from the button for 89,000, Patrick Preston was all in for the exact same stack from the small blind, and Max Young called to put both players at risk in the big blind.

Matthew Moreno: {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Patrick Preston: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Max Young: {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Preston's queens held on the {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop, but Young could now catch up with an eight. The {10-Clubs} turn gave Moreno a flush draw, but the {7-Diamonds} river sent the final bounty of the night over to Preston.

Players are now bagging and tagging for the evening. Stay tuned for full chip counts, as well as a full recap of the day's action.

Andrew Neeme Eliminated in 11th Place ($2,400)

Andrew Neeme
Andrew Neeme

Valerie Hanley opened to 35,000 from the cutoff, Phil Beesley called on the button, and Andrew Neeme put in the squeeze, three-betting to 115,000 in the small blind.

Hanley called, and Beasley folded.

The flop came {4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, and Neeme went all in, for about 180,000. Hanley snap called.

Andrew Neeme: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Valerie Hanley: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}

Neeme's pocket aces ran into Hanley's set, and the turn {2-Hearts} and river {4-Clubs} ended the tournament run for the Run It Up ambassador.

Timothy Guilford Eliminated in 12th Place ($2,400)

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Timothy Guilford

Adam Johnson raised to 20,000 from the hijack, Timothy Guilford three-bet all in for 65,000 from the cutoff, and Johnson called.

Timothy Guilford: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Adam Johnson: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Board: {2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}

It was unfortunate timing for Guilford, who suffered the wrong end of a cooler at the worst of times. No miracles came on the runout, and Guilford is out in 12th place.

Valerie Hanley raised to 20,000 from the button, then called a three-bet to 56,000 from Matt Stout in the small blind.

Stout bet 52,000 on the {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop, and Hanley jammed for 333,000. Stout snap-called.

Valerie Hanley: {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Matt Stout: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

"C'mon, open-ender!" Hanley said.

Hanley clapped after the {k-Clubs} turn completed her straight, and Stout couldn't get the board to pair on the {6-Diamonds} river, leaving Stout with just 26,000. He lost those chips a few hands later to Hanley.

Jason Miller jammed for 115,000 from middle position, and Phil Beesley three-bet shoved for 375,000 on the button, chasing out the blinds.

Jason Miller: {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Phil Beesley: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

Miller's prospects were bleak, and a {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} board brought little drama for Beesley's kings to score the knockout.

Jon Swift pushed for 44,000 on the button, and Ashley Sleeth called from the big blind.

Jon Swift: {k-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Ashley Sleeth: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Board: {3-Clubs}{q-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The queen came in for Sleeth on the flop, but Swift still had hope going into the river, needing a spade for a flush. That spade didn't come, and Swift is out in 16th place.

Hanley Busts Somerville and Makes Pekarek Fold the Best Hand

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Jason Somerville
Jason Somerville

Valerie Hanley raised to 25,000 from under the gun, and was called by Jeremy Pekarek in the hijack, Phil Beesley in the small blind, and Jason Somerville in the big blind.

Beesley checked the {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop to Somerville, who jammed for 33,000. Hanley raised to 100,000, Pekarek called, and Beesley folded.

Hanley jammed for 261,000 on the {4-Spades} turn.

"Gosh, you are just killing me today!" Pekarek exclaimed. He stood up, pacing by the table, then said, "It would pain me so hard to fold the best hand!"

A few minutes passed by, and he said, "You're so comfortable! Oh my gosh!"

A clock was eventually called, and with a few seconds left, he folded. At the prodding of Somerville, Pekarek revealed his {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}, and he was about to be very unhappy:

Jason Somerville: {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Valerie Hanley: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Pekarek dashed from the table as he saw he had indeed folded the best hand, and after the {8-Diamonds} hit the river, Hanley scored the knockout of the Run It Up founder, while Pekarek was left to lament his fold.

Matthew Osorio: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Ashley Sleeth: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Board: {4-Hearts}{a-Spades}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{k-Spades}
