John Lewis is the Bomb

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
John Lewis
John Lewis

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is focused on five events at the RIU Reno VIII, but there are plenty of side events throughout including Monday’s $125 NL Bomb Pot, a tournament played like traditional no-limit hold’em but requires players to each put up an ante and action starts on the flop.

The tournament attracted 124 runners which surpassed the guarantee by creating a $12,028 prize pool. The top 20 players got a piece of it including Michael Holmes (20th - $200), Kyle Anderson (15th - $250), Carlos Pal (9th - $390), Twitch streamer Arlie Shaban (7th - $570), Adam Owen (4th - $970), and former RIU Reno Main Event champ DJ Fenton (3rd - $1,228).

In the end, John Lewis of Portland, Oregon defeated Michael Wood in heads-up play to win the title and a $2,440 first-place prize.

Corey Novak Wins Main Event Seat as Scavenger Hunt Winner

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Corey Novak - Scavenger Hunt Winner
Corey Novak - Scavenger Hunt Winner

Starting last night and going up until 1 p.m. today, players had the opportunity to participate in the RIU Reno VIII Scavenger Hunt.

In order to be entered into the drawing, players had to complete a set of tasks throughout the Peppermill Casino. They included play three hands of each of the blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, and Fortune Pai Gow Poker; place a bet at craps and roulette; and finally play two orbits in the poker room, place a sportsbook bet, purchase a keno ticket, and spend $10 at the RIU merch booth.

Three winners were selected with two players receiving a Nike PokerStars duffle bag and a $125 seat. Those went to Michael Holmes and Ryan Schoonbaert.

Up top awaiting the winner was a $600 Main Event seat, dinner at the steakhouse with 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker, and a PokerStars chip set. The final name pulled and the winner of the RIU Reno VIII Scavenger Hunt was Corey Novak, who let loose a "Let's go, baby," after his name was draw.

We'll see you in the Main Event Corey!

Trivett Collects $100 for Eliminating Prebag

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Michael Trivett
Michael Trivett

The under-the-gun player raised to 700 and Michael Trivett called from the button. The player in the small blind came along and then Chance Prebag three-bet all in for approximately 11,000 from the big blind.

The original raiser folded, Trivett jammed over the top, and the small blind got out of the way.

Trivett: {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Prebag: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}

It was a flip and the {j-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop made things interesting by giving Prebag bottom set and Trivett a flush draw.

The {6-Spades} turn was of no consequence but the {9-Clubs} river was as Trivett made his flush to send Prebag to the rail and cash in on his $100 bounty.
