Andy Pokrivnak Captures First RIU Reno Title

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Andy Pokrivnak
Andy Pokrivnak

Andy Pokrivnak is a regular at Run It Up Reno, but one thing that escaped him during early visits was a RIU title. That changed on Sunday night when he topped an 83-entry field to win the $340 buy-in, $20K GTD Short Deck Championship.

The $24,153 prize pool was paid out to the top 13 players including Donnie McCormick (13th - $600), Frank Lagodich (10th - $960), Nathan Manuel (6th - $1,665), and Jason Pease (3rd - $2,840).

In the end the title came down to Pokrivnak and Mark Mazza, with the former ultimately getting the monkey off his back to capture the title and $5,083 first-place prize.

O'Brien Can't Make Gerhart Fold

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Dan O'Brien raised to 90,000 from UTG+1 with {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, and Kevin Gerhart called with {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} on the button, as did Christopher Gallagher in the small blind with {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

The {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} flop saw Gallagher check, and O'Brien bet 90,000. Gerhart called with middle pair, and Gallagher folded.

The {7-Diamonds} hit the turn, giving O'Brien a double-gutter, and O'Brien bet 200,000. Gerhart, who had 735,000 left in his stack, called.

O'Brien made an inferior pair on the {9-Diamonds} river, and checked. Gerhart checked behind and took down the pot.

Klein Doubles Through Chip Leader Distefano

Level 25 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Loren Klein raised to 110,000 from the hijack, and Vito Distefano three-bet to 330,000 from the small blind, Klein four-bet jammed for 1.1 million and Distefano called after a bit of thought.

Klein: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Distefano: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

Klein pulled ahead on the {j-Hearts}{q-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop, but Distefano still had a gutshot Broadway draw in addition to a king to draw to. The {2-Diamonds} turn and {9-Diamonds} river bricked off, and Klein doubled.
