Dirksen Arrives

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Dustin Dirksen
Dustin Dirksen

Dustin Dirksen has made an appearance here at RunGood Poker Series Council Bluffs. He's been active early and had his starting stack ran up to 27,000 but recently took a small hit when a player shoved in early position for 3,075 and Dirksen called with {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. His opponent had {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and that player flopped a jack to double up.

Dirksen has more than $1.3 million in tournament cashes including a $400,000 score for sixth at the PCA in 2009. He also has nosebleed cash experience from the old online days, so he's certainly a player to watch.

Steve Pham

In a pot with 8,000 already in preflop, Steve Pham checked from the small blind and a cutoff opponent checked back. Pham bet 2,500 on fourth with the board reading {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, and his opponent called immediately. Pham bet 5,600 on the {3-Hearts}, and his opponent sighed an announced a call after about 15 seconds.

Pham tabled two aces and took the pot.

Moore Quadruples Up Blind

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante
Sean Moore celebrates after flopping trip threes.
Sean Moore celebrates after flopping trip threes.

Sean Moore put his last 5,575 in blind and started a slew of all ins as a player in the blinds shoved followed by two players who had come into the pot in early position. Moore had {8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}, Elizabeth Hunter had {k-}{q-}, an early-position player had {j-}{10-}, and Darren Attebery had {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. The flop came {3-}{10-}{3-}, causing Moore to raise his arms in celebration. He did have to fade some cards after a {j-} hit on the turn, but the river was safe for him.

Draw Over Draw

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Darren Attebery bet 6,500 on a {7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop after two players checked, and the hijack shoved all in for 14,825 more. The other two players folded.

"Small flush draw?" Attebery asked. "I'm getting a good price."

He decided to call with {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts} and saw he was actually ahead of {8-Spades}{6-Spades}. The {6-Diamonds} turn left him needing help on the river, and he his the nut straight when the {10-Hearts} fell.

Phan Gets Paid Off on River; Lee Eliminated

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Bernard Lee
Bernard Lee

Ryan Phan opened for 2,000 in the cutoff and got action from the big blind. The big blind check-called the {q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop for 4,000, and both checked the {q-Hearts} turn. On the {a-Spades} river, the big blind checked and Phan bet 7,000. The big blind called and flipped {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} but Phan had {k-}{k-}.

At another table, Bernard Lee hit the rail when he lost with {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, turning top two against a player who made aces and nines on the river with {a-}{9-}. We didn't see when the money went in.
