Suresh Seals an Elimination

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The table featuring Tyson Apostol, Brian Fenzel, and Suganth Suresh continues to entertain, with some of the liveliest table talk among the five tables still in play on Day 1a.

The latest player to exit the Main Event wished everyone at the table good luck after getting shipped out of the tournament at the hands of Suresh. The short-stacked player's {9-Spades}{5-Hearts} tried to take a last stand against Suresh's {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

The flop brought out an interesting {k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{5-Spades}, with both players catching a piece of the board. Suresh's top pair held through the {6-Clubs} turn and {6-Spades} river, and Suresh is still holding steady with just around 80,000 chips.

Brady Boosts the Stack

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Mike Brady told PokerNews the details of a hand that bolstered his stack to 56,000 after a double up.

Brady opened to 3,200 from the hijack, the big blind three-bet to 11,300, and Brady four-bet shoved for 27,300. The big blind called, showing {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

Brady's ace-queen offsuit was ahead preflop, and a queen-high flop put Brady ahead for good.

Canez Corrals Massive Pot

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Joseph Canez
Joseph Canez

An early-position player opened to 4,000, Brian Nordin called on the button, Joe Canez called in the small blind, and Dan Brooks called in the big blind.

The flop came {10-Spades}{q-Spades}{5-Clubs}, and all players except Brooks ended up getting all of the chips in. Nordin had the biggest of the three stacks going to the showdown.

Early Position: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Joe Canez: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Brian Nordin: {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}

Canez, looking for a flush or straight to scoop the pot, found just that. The turn brought the {j-Clubs}, but the river fell {6-Spades} and sent the biggest pot of Day 1a to Canez.

Kerstetter is a Survivor

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Facing a hijack open to 5,000, Tyson Apostol flat called from the cutoff. Jamie Kerstetter shoved for 24,900, the original raiser folded, and Apostol went into the tank for a few moments.

Apostol decided on a call, and the cards were turned face up:

Jamie Kerstetter: {a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Tyson Apostol: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Board: {4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}

Kerstetter found a pair of fives on the flop, which stayed true through the runout. Apostol asked PokerNews to note that he's a better preflop player than Kerstetter, and both players have chips to maneuver with as the night heads into the final level.

Big Chips for the Golden Blazer

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

Brian Frenzel moved up to right around 200,000 chip near the end of Day 1a play.

Frenzel and an opponent got all of the chips in preflop, with Frenzel's ace-king offsuit besting his opponent's ace-queen offsuit. Frenzel appears to be in contention for the Day 1a chip lead as Level 12 winds down.
