Pat Tighe Wins Event #3 $300 No Limit Hold'em ($9,514)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Pat Tighe
Pat Tighe

Pat Tighe got the best of a field of 135 entries to win the third event on the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge schedule early Monday morning.

Although a deal was struck four-handed Tighe officially recorded a $9,514 win after outlasting a marathon final table and beating Cameron Bartolotta heads up.

Tighe showed up near the top of the chip counts at the final three tables, and while he made the final table with a healthy stack, there were several times he found himself short as play went short handed.

Getting key double ups to survive just when he needed them, Tighe grinded his way into four-handed play and took control from there.

He entered heads-up facing a deficit, but doubled through Bartolotta to take the lead and eventually got him to commit all his chips dominated.

PokerNews will be back for coverage of the first flight of Event #5 of the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge beginning at 11 a.m. local time on Monday.

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 4,000 ante
John Michalak
John Michalak

John Michalak shoved all in, Pat Tighe followed suit for more, the rest of the table folded and it was Michalak's {a-Spades}{2-Hearts} against Tighe's {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}.

The flop fell {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs} giving Michalak the lead, but the {10-Hearts} turn ended his hopes, giving Tighe a set.

The river was the {4-Spades} and Michalak exited fifth.

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Rob Davis

Rob Davis defended his big blind against a 60,000-chip open from John Michalak.

The flop fell {10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and after a Davis check, Michalak continued for another 60,000. Davis check-raised all in having Michalak covered and he pondered the call for a good two minutes before making it with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}.

Incredibly, he was right, Davis was on a flush draw with {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Davis missed on the {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} run out.

Left crippled on the next hand Davis ran sixes into Cameron Bartolotta's jacks and busted out.

Christopher Trybus made it 12,000, Joseph Elia shoved for 49,500 more and after a short time in the tank Trybus called.

Elia held {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Trybus just {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, but Trybus' good run of cards continued with a jack falling on the {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} board to send Elia home 14th.

Work It Out

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Shawn Wilmot Jr
Shawn Wilmot Jr

Shawn Wilmot Jr seems to be having the kind of day where everything seems to be working out.

He made the nut straight with {4-}{7-}, busted a player with jacks over threes and even managed to win a decent pot making quad eights.

He now finds himself among the leaders as Level 11 comes to a close.

Deja Vu

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Bruce Pace
Bruce Pace

In Saturday's $500 No Limit Hold'em event, Bruce Pace shot up the leaderboard like a rocket in the early part of the day.

When asked how he managed to do it, the affable character in a Texas Longhorns hat said he could hardly remember.

Today seems a lot like yesterday for Pace as he once again finds himself among the early leaders with little in the way of explanation.

However, we did see him call a raise from the small blind with {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, flop an open-ender and turn a straight to drag one decent pot.

Unfortunately Pace's run-good ran out and he finished short of the money Saturday. Obviously he's hoping today will end differently.
