Mike Latour Wins Summer Slam's $50,000 Guaranteed $200 No-Limit Hold'em for $21,246

A 31-year-old Syracuse, NY Alarm Company Account Executive, who played poker for a living online before Black Friday, took down the 2016 Seneca Niagara Falls Summer Slam $200 No-Limit Hold'em Event #2 Sunday night.

Mike Latour, who came all the way up from the bottom of the leaderboard at the start of the final table to dominate short-handed play, earned the $21,246 first-place prize outright, after ultimately defeating a field of 562 entries.

The event drew big numbers over four starting flights Friday and Saturday, smashing the $50,000 guarantee to create $92,378 prize pool. A total of 90 players survived the opening heats and quickly moved past the 55-player money bubble and onto the final table Sunday evening.

Local star Blake Napierala had the chip lead when the final table began, but after Cara Brewer busted tenth, he was on the wrong end of three big hands and ultimately finished ninth. Latour got some of those chips hitting an open-ender against an overpair and was back in the thick of it by the time John Stempien busted eighth. Latour sent Tomasz Werstler home seventh, but Rodolfo Navas began building a massive chip lead at that time.

Thomas Mader busted John Huening sixth, coming from behind to flop a set of jacks, and Abe Reinhardt ran big slick into a Latour pair to go home fifth. Matt Devins ran into Latour's kings to go out fourth, and Latour inched closer to even with Navas.

Three-handed play saw the hand of the tournament with Latour turning a straight, and getting both a 1 million chip check-raise and 1.1 million chip value bet through with Navas unable to fold pocket aces. Latour had a 2:1 lead on the table after that, and when Mader ran into Navas' pocket aces to go out third, Latour took that same lead into heads-up play.

A few hands in, Navas switched gears and started shoving , but ultimately ran into Latour's pocket kings and took runner-up.

That ends PokerNews' coverage of the 2016 Seneca Niagara Falls Summer Slam $200 No-Limit Hold'em Event #2, but the Live Reporting Team will return to Seneca Niagara this Thursday July 28 to present coverage of the $300 Pot-Limit Omaha $15,000 Guaranteed Event.

Rodolfo Navas Eliminated in 2nd Place ($12,988)

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 5,000 ante
Rodolfo Navas
Rodolfo Navas

Mike Latour made it 200,000 on the button, and seeing the rising tide, Rodolfo Navas, who had been reduced to shoving the past few hands, did so again.

Latour called with the {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and was miles ahead of Navas' {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}. Kings held on the {6-Spades}{a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} board and as Navas hit the cage to collect second-place money, Latour became the 2016 Seneca Niagara Falls Summer Slam $200 No-Limit Hold'em Champion. A recap will follow.

Thomas Mader

Thomas Mader shoved the {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs} on the button, and for the second time in the last few hands, Rodolfo Navas woke up with two aces and called, having Mader covered by a few thousand in chips.

Navas flopped a set and turned a boat for good measure, sending Mader out third. Navas now enters heads-up play with Mike Latour down about 2:1 in chips.

Matt Devins

Matt Devins raised under the gun and Mike Latour three-bet the small blind. Devins called and when Latour put 350,000 in on the {4-Spades}{7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop, Devins shoved.

Latour snap-called with the {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and Devins needed a lot of help with the {j-Spades}{10-Spades}. None came on the {4-Hearts} turn and {6-Diamonds} river and Devins took fifth.

After toying around with his short stack for a while, Abe Reinhardt woke up with the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} in the small blind and shoved for around 100,000.

Mike Latour had the {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} in the big blind and called, making the big end of a board straight on the {4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} run out to bust Reinhardt.

John Huening
John Huening

John Huening ran it up from 20,000 to start the day, but this short-stacked ninja will progress no further.

He opened shoved the {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for 700,000 and Thomas Mader called with the {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} having him covered. The {j-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} was a bad one for Huening, giving Mader a set.

The {2-Clubs} turn was no good and the {9-Hearts} river ended Huening's rags to riches story in sixth.

Tomasz Werstler shoved the {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for around 200,000 and got the call from Mike Latour on the {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

The {4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop gave Werstler a set, but the {3-Diamonds} turn made Latour a wheel. The {10-Spades} river did not pair the board and Werstler bowed out.

After taking the chip lead at the final table, it all went South for Blake Napierala, and he's now out.

He finally shoved 500,000 over a Rodolfo Navas raise and Navas had two aces. Napierala's two sevens were no match, and as he hit the rail ninth, Navas took a huge lead into eight-handed play.

Pisa On The River!

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Steve Pisa
Steve Pisa

After checking down the flop with fellow big stack Steve Pisa, Matt Shanahan had {q-}{5-} to the turn on a {q-}{q-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} board and led for 35,000. Pisa made it 95,000 with a pair of sixes in the hole.

Shanahan shoved for around 165,000, and Pisa called it off, having that barely covered. Down to just two outs, the river came a miracle {6-} for Pisa and he now takes a massive chip lead into the lead up to the bubble with Shanahan out and 69 left.
