Courtney Bounces Back With a Big Pot

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Nahum Lum
Nahum Lum

Four ways to the 765 flop, Nahum Lum was all-in for a short stack of around 11,000 and Stephen Courtney raised to 28,000. Paul Mantzios called and Damon Fine folded. The A on the turn was checked by the two active players and the 4 river brought a four-card straight on the board as well.

Courtney now bet 35,000 and Mantzios asked for the bet sizing before declaring "call".

Courtney tabled K10 for the nut flush and Mantzios mucked QQ, Lum was eliminated with the J8.

"I folded tens," Fine mentioned in the table chat.

Courtney Takes Two Hits

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Jan van der Westhuizen
Jan van der Westhuizen

Cliton Taliwanth opened and Stephen Courtney then three-bet to 5,500 on the button. Warren Zackey four-bet jammed in the small blind and forced out all opponents.

One hand later, Courtney peeled a raise to 6,000 by Jan van der Westhuizen in the small blind and called a continuation bet worth 12,000 on the 432 flop. After the 4 turn, van der Westhuizen pushed for just 8,100 and Courtney sigh-called, seemingly knowing he only had a few outs.

Jan van der Westhuizen: KK All in
Stephen Courtney: 55

The 9 river was a blank and Courtney dropped below the starting stack.

Amstel Gold Race Goes to Elizabeth

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Shannon Elizabeth
Shannon Elizabeth

There was an all-in and call over on table three and a quick look revealed why it was such an obvious clash as Shannon Elizabeth and Amstel both had flopped a set on Q108.

Shannon Elizabeth: QQ All in
Amstel: 1010

The 2 turn and J river were no threat and Elizabeth doubled, she now has more chips than she bagged on Day 1a. Nic Ioannoy mentioned he folded Q9 and would have rivered the best hand.

Things Go From Fine to Rough Quickly

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Damon Fine; Peter Smith and Nic Ioannoy
Damon Fine; Peter Smith and Nic Ioannoy

Nic Ioannoy bagged up nearly six starting stacks last night but entered Day 1c in an attempt to run up even more chips or have some fun splashing around. The first of the preflop all-ins saw him at risk against Damon Fine for a big portion of the starting stack.

Nic Ioannoy: J9 All in
Damon Fine: AK

The board ran out 8756K and Ioanniy doubled to leave Fine short.

Fine then jammed for 4,500 soon after and Peter Smith called. Ioannoy jammed behind for 60,300 and Smith folded after getting a count.

Damon Fine: 108 All in
Nic Ioannoy: KQ

Fine predicted to hit a straight flush but the [AdAhJKc3hKd] runout further piled misery on his already disastrous day of all-in showdowns.

Vilela Hits a Fine Turn

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Jaime Vilela
Jaime Vilela

With 11,000 in the middle to the 873 flop, Jaime Vilela was all-in for 17,400. Damon Fine called with the superior stack and another player added "I am rooting for you" to Vilela when the cards were exposed.

Jaime Vilela: 1010 All in
Damon Fine: QQ

Things were not looking fine for Vilela as he needed running cards to a straight or one of the two tens in the deck. Sure enough, the turn brought the 10 and the 6 river secured his double-up.

Successful Shove for Ghoorbin

Level 2 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

SM squeezed to 2,600 on the button and received no fewer than three callers before they checked the J43 flop. On the 9 turn, Vishal Ghoorbin checked in the small blind and the big blind bet 5,500. Another opponent in early position called and SM then raised to 16,000.

Ghoorbin check-jammed and that forced out the first two opponents pretty quickly. SM went into a brief tank and then asked if Ghoorbin had a flush before he folded. Ghoorbin first flashed the A before he also revealed the A as well.

Courtney Off to a Decent Start

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Stephen Courtney
Stephen Courtney

With some 8,000 in the middle to the KK473 river, Warren Zackey checked and Stephen Courtney bet 4,000. The check-raise to 10,000 by Zackey followed and Courtney called within a few seconds to instantly roll over his K9 already.

Zackey never showed his cards but slid them into the muck.
