The Festival Series launched this week at Banco Casino in the majestic Slovakian capital of Bratislava. The festival is setting a new standard for casino festivals with not only poker on offer but also Blackjack, Roulette, Slots, and Sports Wagering events as well.

The Festival Series Bratislava €550 Main Event kicked off with a bang and is well on its way to meeting its €300,000 with 108 entries getting into the action on yesterday's Day 1a. After 10 levels of play, just 38 players bagged their stacks into Day 2 with Pavol Melichar leading the way after parlaying his 30,000 starting stack into a tower of 223,000 in chips. Jon Kyte and JJ Hazan were among the notable names to also find a bag on Day 1a.

Day 1b is set to kick off at 12 p.m. CEST with players starting off with 30,000 in chips and playing 10 blind levels of 45 minutes each. There will be three 20-minute breaks scattered throughout the day to keep players fresh.

Expect an even bigger turnout than yesterday as many players just arrived on Tuesday.

Those looking to get into the action but didn't qualify online and don't want to shell out the €550 buy-in can still get in cheaply today with a €35 satellite kicking off at 3 p.m. CEST with five seats guaranteed.

Today will also feature the €440 Texas Progressive Knockout at 5 p.m. and Day 1 of the €1,100 PLO High Roller at 7 p.m. In addition, players can still get involved in some of the casino side events with both the €250 Blackjack Main Event and the €250 Roulette Main Event advancing to Day 1c.

Stay tuned at PokerNews for updates throughout the day of The Festival Series Bratislava Main Event.

Bojavic Shoves River

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Luka Bojavic four-bet from the button for 3,000. Hanna Arnesson, who initially three-bet called.

Arnesson check-raised the {2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop from 1,000 to 4,500 and Bojavic called. Bojavic then called a bet of 8,000 on the {2-Spades} turn before the {7-Clubs} double-paired the board on the river.

Bojavic jammed for around 17,000 after Arnesson checked it over to him. Arnesson went into the tank for a minute before she folded to give Bojavic an early pot.

Wald Re-Enters

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Dan Wald
Dan Wald

Dan Wald has changed seats at the same table. This isn't due to a wild redraw but because he was eliminated before immediately re-entered.

Wald and Rikard Andersson both recapped the basics of the hand to PokerNews.

Wald was short on chips when he flopped top pair with {a-}{7-}. Andersson nailed a set on the turn with {10-}{10-}. Wald got his crumbs in on the river and was back a couple of minutes later with a new stack of 30,000 in chips.

Cowboys for Vainio

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Rikard Andersson bet 6,000 with about 9,000 in the pot with the {2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Spades} on the board after the turn and was called by Ville Vainio.

Andersson then bet another 6,000 on the {7-Clubs} river. Vainio paused for a moment before announcing he was all-in.

Andersson asked for a count and the dealer shared it was for 17,100.

"You have the coconuts?" asked Andersson. "I have the shitanuts."

Andersson went into the tank for another minute before tossing a single chip in designating a call.

Vainio turned over {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} which was good enough to double his stack with Andersson showing the table {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for top pair.

Meanwhile, Lars Eklund became the second person to hit the rail early on Day 1b and Totti Lind has joined the action to bring the field up to 52 entries with 50 players remaining.

Lindberg with Aces

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Rikard Lindberg bet 3,000 into a pot of around 5,000 with the {4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} on the board. Kristoffer Winterstein tanked for a minute before he called.

Winterstein turned over over {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} for an overpair to the paired board. This wasn't good enough as Lindberg held {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} to win the pot with a better two pair.
