Raul Garza Leads the Way in Largest Day 1 Field of Event #9

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Raul Garza

Day 1f of Event #9: 750K GTD NLH has reached conclusion after nearly ten hours of play. The final flight added an additional 344 entries, which played down to just 41 players (12%) at the end of the night.

The end-of-day chip leader was Raul Garza who bagged a whopping 806,000 chips. Garza picked up a large portion of his chips by using his already large stack to bully other players as the bubble drew near. One player took a stand against him when Lukas Brazdeikis called his all-in shove with {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Garza had pocket sevens that hand and they held to begin his explosion to the top of the leaderboard. Garza is also our overall chip leader going into tomorrow's final day.

Not far behind him is Kristen Bicknell, who bagged 499,000 chips herself. She made all the right moves as the day went on to build a healthy stack. Alex Foxen and their dog, Riley were on the rail supporting her all evening. "Riley has brought her some run good this week," Foxen shared. We'll see if Riley shows up tomorrow to continue the run.

Kevin Garosshen was one of two players responsible for getting players through the bubble and on to day two. He flopped a set of tens against bubble person #1, Daniel Jones. Jones couldn't hit his combo draw on the river and was left just shy of a bag. Garosshen will carry 472,000 chips into Day 2.

Conrad Simpson busted bubble person #2, Jeremy Moore. Moore was forced to play when the big blind caused him to put all his remaining chips in the middle. Simpson isolated by shoving his relatively short stack in as well. In the end, Simpson's {a-}{k-} bested the blind hand of Moore, which was {k-Spades}{4-Spades}. Simpson will start Day 2 with 130,000 chips and oozing confidence in his ability to run that up.

42 players were scheduled to bag from this flight as that would have made 12% of the field. However, since both Jeremy Moore and Daniel Jones busted at the same time during hand-for-hand play, they missed out on a bag for Day 2 and any piece of the prize pool. So, then, 41 players have punched their ticket to tomorrow's final day.

The 41 players will move on to Day 2, joining the other 95 players that bagged from the previous five flights.

PokerNews will continue the coverage tomorrow at 2:00 pm when the remaining players will play down to a winner and decide who will take home the largest cut of the over $750,000 prize pool.

Two Players Bust and Miss Out on Day 2

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Conrad Simpson
Conrad Simpson

During a grueling hand-for-hand session that refused to see any all-in player busts, suddenly two different players were all in at the same time.

On the first table, Jeremy Moore had waited as long as he could to get the chips in the middle, quite literally. He found himself in the big blind and was forcibly all in with less that the total owed. He was going to have to survive a flop.

One player limped before Conrad Simpson moved all in from middle position for 100,000. Multiple other players tanked as Moore awaited his fate. Ultimately, Simpson's raise did give him protection as the rest of the table folded and they took a flop heads up.

Moore flipped over {k-Spades}{4-Spades} for his blind hand. Simpson had him in big trouble with the {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. The board ran out all low cards until the {a-Spades} landed on the river and eliminated Jeremy from the tournament. He wouldn't be the only elimination, though.

On a nearby table, Daniel Jones shoved less than ten big blinds and was called Kevin Garosshen. Everyone else at the table got out of the way.

After the first table had completed their hand, the tournament director moved to this hand. "Alright, let's see the hands."

Jones had {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Garosshen showed the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}. The window card delivered a blow to Jones' hopes as the {10-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flopped Garosshen a set. Jones still had his hopes resting on a gutshot.

The {2-Clubs}, though, brought even more hope to Jones as his gutshot had added a flush draw.

One card left to secure a bag for day two, the river card wasn't what he was looking for as the {8-Diamonds} fell and sent him to join Moore on the outside looking in.

Neither player got paid as only those who bag will make Day 2 and are in the money.

Kristen Bicknell
Kristen Bicknell

Kristen Bicknell has slowly but surely been picking up chips as the bubble draws near.

Alex Foxen and their adorable Yorkie, Riley, sit nearby and support her from the rail.

"Riley has been on the rail for the last few days in a good week for her," said Foxen as they prepare for their trip to Vegas.

Bicknell will look to carry her momentum to a large stack in preparation for Day 2 tomorrow and notch a tournament cash before they leave Austin.

Conrad Simpson

Rudy Cadenas opened on the button to 23,000, nearly three big blinds. Conrad Simpson shoved over the top of his open to 160,000 from the small blind. The big blind contemplated getting involved but decided against it and folded.

Back on Cadenas, he folded pretty quickly as well and Simpson raked more chips in an attempt to carry himself into a bag for Day 2.

Nightmare for Amor, Dream for Barrell

Level 15 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Mason Barrell
Mason Barrell

Amor shoved in early position for 146,000, about 17 big blinds. It didn't look like he was going to get any action as one by one the table folded around to Barrell in the big blind.

Barrell took one look at his cards and immediately slammed a stack of chips into the middle.

Amor tabled {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Barrell shot a hole in those cowboys with a couple of bullets in {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

"Geez, you've had my number all night, now you wake up with aces against my kings. Come on dealer, give it to me!" Amor shouted.

The board was no help and Amor shipped a large pile of chips over to Barrell.

Perez's Jacks Win the Race

Level 14 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Benjamin Perez
Benjamin Perez

Williams bet all but 2,000 of his 120,000 stack preflop. The player on his left, Quinton Williams immediately shoved his last 42,000 from the small blind. While the big blind considered coming along, he asked "You all in"?

"I'm most definitely not all in," as Williams pointed out the 2,000 chips he kept himself.

The big blind folded and Perez revealed his {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} was up against the {k-Spades}{q-Spades} of Williams.

"It's a fair fight," said Perez.

It may have been fair, but Perez came out on top of this one when the board came out {2-}{6-}{8-}{a-}{8-} and Williams was sent home.

Bicknell's Flush Sends Opponent Home

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Kristen Bicknell
Kristen Bicknell

Kristen Bicknell opened in late position to 8,000. Action folded to the short-stacked big blind, Leonardo Valenzuela, who shoved his final 17,000 chips. Bicknell called for the 11,000 more.

Bicknell sighed when she saw Valenzuela's first card was a king, he flipped {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Bicknell had the {k-Spades}{4-Spades}.

The flop helped nobody as the {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. The {5-Spades} turn gave Bicknell the flush draw, and the pretty {a-Spades} hit the river to give BIcknell the nuts and add to her growing chip stack.

Table Grows Impatient as Morales Tanks for His Tournament Life

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Terry Morales
Terry Morales

Action picked up on the turn with two players heads up to a flop of {q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

Terry Morales bet the flop and Payam Saleh raised in position. Morales three-bet to 69,500, about half of his stack. Saleh then shoved all in for about 140,000 effective.

Morales went deep into the tank. Robert Perelman eventually called for a clock.

"Has he had enough time to act?" asked the tournament director.

"Yeah, I went and got a beer," said another tablemate.

The dealer confirmed and Morales used his full 30-second countdown before folding his hand and living to see another hand.

"What'd you have?" the table prodded Saleh.

"I mean, there are only a few hands," he replied, but never showed.

Robinson Nearly Triples Up

Andrew Robinson
Andrew Robinson

Teddy Conner opened under the gun to 5,000. Andrew Robinson decided to go all in for about 21,000. He wasn't the only one, though, as Russell Chabaud did the same for his last 7,800.

Conner had them both covered and decided to go for the double knockout. He called and flipped {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}. Chabaud showed {k-Spades}{q-Spades} and Robinson had {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

The flop came Jack high and Robinson's top pair was enough to get the win and eliminate Chabaud.

Michael Wang

Action picked up on the river when Joseph Turnbull was heard saying, "that's a really bad river for me." Wang had led from the small blind for 25,000 into a pot of about 40,000. The board showed {10-}{7-}{9-}{3-}{7-}.

Wang sat stoically while Turnbull deliberated for about a minute. Ultimately, he decided to make the call. Wang revealed his {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and Turnbull mucked.
