40 Players Advance From Large Day 1c Field

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

After 14 levels of play here on Day 1c, 40 players have made their way through to Day 2. Entries closed following the break after the end of level nine and, as expected, it was another large day for entries and the final number for Day 1c was 215.

Of the 40 moving on, Nik Stone leads the way with a healthy 290,000 in chips. Michael Griebe finished second in chips and bagged up 283,000. Thomas Klein (267,500), Henry Tran (228,000) and Richard Tapper (213,500) are also advancing with nice stacks. Other notables advancing to Day 2 are Jean Gaspard (183,500), Michael Ross (144,000) and Patrick Steele (78,000).

Notables that entered Day 1c but failed to advance included Nick Guagenti, Allen Kessler and Bill Romer.

Day 2 will begin bright and early on Sunday and a total of 98 players have advanced on to the second and final day of action.

One Half of One Million Dollars

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

With this reporter's pinky to the corner of his mouth, it is with much excitement that we announce that the tournament's prize pool has exceeded $500,000.

There is still over an hour to enter, but with Day 1c entries sitting at 205, the tournament has now received over 500 entries total and the first prize is now expected to push past $120,000.

Third and Final Day 1

Welcome to the Mid-States Poker Tour main event at FireKeepers casino in Battle Creek, MI. This is the last of three “day ones” and the popular tour stop will add considerably to the 302 entries from the first two day ones.

The second stop of the year at FireKeepers, Jason Zarlenga emerged victorious in May, besting over 400 entries to take home over $100,000. Zarlenga is the all-time money winner on tour and currently sits in third place in the race for Player Of the Year. Zarlenga punched his ticket to Day 2 with his play on Day 1a, as did Adam Friedman.

The $1,100 buy-in tournament is already well past its $200,000 guarantee and allows for one re-entry before the end of level nine. Cards are scheduled to be in the air at noon local time. The plan is to play 14 40-minute levels for Day 1c. On Sunday, all surviving players will combine under one roof to play down to a winner.

PokerNews will be on site to provide live coverage. Stay tuned as we see who can wade their way through the large field and on to Day 2.
