Caspers Breaking Bad

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Tyler Caspers
Tyler Caspers

Tyler Caspers, who you may recall finished in third place at the start of the season at the Running Aces stop, played on Day 1a, but he was unable to make it through to Day 2 after being eliminated late in the evening. Caspers has opted to fire a second bullet, and he seems settled in for the long haul.

Caspers is currently zoned out watching Breaking Bad, which is considered by many to be the greatest television show of all time.

Caspers may seem unassuming, especially when he's fixated on his iPad, but his opponents best heed Walter White's advice and "tread lightly."

Robinson Flops Big

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Denny Robinson raised to 400 from middle position, a player in late position called and the big blind called. After a flop of {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Spades} and a check from the big blind, Robinson bet 400 and both opponents called. The turn was the {k-Clubs} and after a check from the big blind, Robinson continued for 800. That bet was met with a raise from the late-position player to 2,000, a fold from the big blind and a call from Robinson. The board paired with the {2-Diamonds} on the river and Robinson fired 2,000. His opponent called, but mucked when he saw the pocket fours of Robinson, giving him the full house and the pot.

Third Time is the Charm

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

World Series of Poker bracelet winner Nick Jivkov, who took down Event #5 $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em back in 2012, isn't having much luck here at FireKeepers.

Yesterday he busted after making an ill-timed move with {5-}{6-} suited, and today he busted after running a flush into a full house. Not to be deterred, Jivkov has opted to take advantage of the reentry option (you're allowed one a day) and is back in action.

On a side note, the tournament clock says 105 players are currently registered for Day 1b, which means with Day 1a's 106 the $200,000 guarantee has already been surpassed. Toss in late registration today and a third starting flight tomorrow, and it's safe to say that guarantee is going to end up crushed!

Friedman Stuck in Reverse

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

World Series of Poker bracelet winner and Heartland Poker Tour champ Adam Friedman drove four hours from Ohio last night to play his first-ever MSPT. He opted to rest up on Day 1a, so today marks his debut. Unfortunately for him, things aren't going quite as planned as he's down to less than half the starting stack.

In a recent hand, there was around 1,500 in the pot and a board reading {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{k-Clubs} when a player checked to Friedman, who bet 525. A player behind called, the other player folded, and it was heads up to the {5-Diamonds} river, which they both checked.

"You're good," Friedman admitted, which prompted his opponent to tabled the {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}. Friedman mucked and inventoried his remaining chips.

Crack-Proof Turn

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Rodd Robinson limped from middle position, Devin Looney completed from the small blind and the big blind checked his option. The flop came down {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. Looney checked, the big blind checked and Robinson bet 600, Looney raised to 1,400, the big blind folded and Robinson three-bet to 2,800. Looney made the call and saw the {5-Spades} fall on the turn. Both players checked and the river was the {j-Hearts}. Each player checked again and Robinson turned over pocket aces. Looney mucked and proclaimed "nice turn card," mentioning that he had {9-}{6-}.

He's a Newcomer

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

"All in and a call," we heard a dealer yell. We made our way over to discover Darrell Newcomer getting his last 7,625 all in on a board reading {3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Spades}.

Newcomer, who was in the big blind, rolled over the {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for two pair, which was ahead of his opponent's {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}. The {6-Diamonds} river ended up pairing the board, and for a moment Newcomer seemed concerned that he had been counterfeited, though he quickly realized the six gave him a winning full house.

Newcomer is now back to the starting stack of 20,000.

Romer is Out

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Successful MSPT grinder, "Wild Bill" Romer has been eliminated. Romer raised under-the-gun to 450 and got a call from Denny Robinson in late position and from the big blind. The flop was {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. The big blind checked, Romer bet 850 and Robinson called. The big blind player now woke up with a raise to 3,200 and Romer flat-called. Robinson decided the betting wasn't over and reraised to 10,000. The big blind got out of the way and Romer made the call, leaving them heads up to the turn. Romer checked the {7-Diamonds} turn and Robinson pushed all in. Romer quickly made the call and needed to hit a nine or ace on the river as his {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} needed to hit a draw to best Robinson's set of sixes. The river was the {10-Diamonds} and Robinson scooped the wild pot as Romer left the tournament area.
