After two grueling day of play, 61 players have risen to the top to contend for the championship and a first prize of more than $90,000 here at Mid-States Poker Tour Ho-Chunk Gaming.

Leading the way is Don Coy, who rode a late Day 1a heater to a stack of 282,500, but Rob Wazwaz (254,500), Jason Mirza (253,000), Benjamin Berlowski (240,000), and Drake Bronk (239,500) aren't far behind. Other strong contenders include Matt Alexander (223,500), Ken Pates (192,500), Mike Deis (172,000), Lance Harris (158,000), Matt Kirby (149,500), and Jason Sell (134,000), who is trying to make it two straight titles at Ho-Chunk.

Play will resume at 10:30 a.m. sharp with Level 15 (1,500/3,000/500) and continue until a final table is reached. At that point, there will be a dinner break before the tournament reconvenes and plays down to a champion. Don't go anywhere until we see who emerges to claim the title.

Pupillo Gets There

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Nick Pupillo
Nick Pupillo

Don Coy opened for 8,000 under the gun and was called by Nick Pupillo on his left and Jason Sell on the button. In the small blind, a player made it 26,000 to go, and Coy thought for awhile before folding. Pupillo asked for a count of the reraiser's remaining chips, and told it was about 50,000, he moved all in. Sell folded, and the reraiser called.

Pupillo: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Small blind: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Pupillo flopped a straight draw on {3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, but a {9-Diamonds} missed him. The {q-Diamonds} river filled his Broadway straight though, and he scored the knockout.

Fliginger Takes Wazwaz to Valuetown

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Thane Fliginger
Thane Fliginger

Both blinds checked to Rob Wazwaz, who bet 13,500 on a {2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop. Thane Fliginger raised to 27,000, and the small blinded folded. Wazwaz called, seeing a {6-Spades} turn. Fliginger bet 20,000 this time, and Wazwaz again called. He fairly quickly called another 35,000 on the {3-Diamonds} river, but Fliginger showed him a winner: {2-Clubs}{2-Spades} for a turned full house.

Ehlen Wise to Wazwaz's Gamesmanship

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Ken Pates couldn't make it two straight MSPT wins.
Ken Pates couldn't make it two straight MSPT wins.

Rob Wazwaz bet 15,000 from under the gun on a {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop, and Kris Ehlen made it 37,000 to go. Mid-States Poker Tour Running Aces champ Ken Pates shoved all in for 112,000, and Wazwaz got a count. He pushed forward a call, and it was Ehlen's turn to act.

"How much do you have behind, Rob?" Ehlen asked.

"He can't reraise can he?" Wazwaz asked the dealer.

After a bit, Ehlen laid it down.

Wazwaz: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Pates: {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}

It was set-over-set and Pates didn't find his one out.

"He can't reraise, can he?" Alexander said, jokingly mocking Wazwaz's attempt to look weak.

"He's tried that one before," Ehlen said.

Players are on their first break of the day, which ends in a few minutes.

Deis Bubbles Out

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Mike Deis
Mike Deis

We found Mike Deis all in from the small blind for 85,500, having been called by big blind Nicholas Pupillo.

Pupillo: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Deis: {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Deis was live, but nobody flopped anything on {5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. The {a-Clubs} turn left the current Mid-States Poker Tour Player of the Year drawing dead, and players are redrawing for new seats as the Michigan native leaves with empty pockets and no points.

Berlowski Takes Lead in Massive Pot Over Ehlen

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Benjamin Berlowski is now the chip leader.
Benjamin Berlowski is now the chip leader.

Benjamin Berlowski limped in from early position and then called a raise to 41,000 from button Kris Ehlen. The flop came {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, and Berlowski check-raised after Ehlen bet 35,000. Ehlen said he was all in, and Berlowski quickly called.

Ehlen: {q-}{q-}
Berlowski: {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}

Berlowski had flopped a set, and no queen appeared on the {8-Clubs} turn or {2-Diamonds} river to save Ehlen. Berlowski is now the chip leader in the tournament after being shipped 328,000 by Ehlen.

Players are on break for 10 minutes.

Beat Sends Zarlenga Packing

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Jason Zarlenga took a bad beat.
Jason Zarlenga took a bad beat.

We found Jason Zarlenga all in with {10-}{10-} preflop against the {a-Spades}{7-Spades} of Mark Soik. The flop was safe, {4-Spades}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs}, for Zarlenga, but he was left shaking his head after an {a-Diamonds} turn. The river was a meaningless {3-Spades}, and stacks were counted down. Zarlenga had about 160,000, while Soik had about 175,000.

Rob Wazwaz Eliminated in 10th Place ($4,364)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Rob Wazwaz - 10th Place
Rob Wazwaz - 10th Place

Two hands, one gone.

On the second hand, Rob Wazwaz got all in preflop with {a-Spades}{j-Spades} against the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} of Nick Kost. The {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop left Kost pumping his fist with a set, but he got some pause from a {10-Clubs} turn. Wazwaz needed an {8-}, but the river was an {a-Clubs}, giving him meaningless trips.

Erich Ponath Eliminated in 9th Place ($6,713)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Erich Ponath - 9th Place
Erich Ponath - 9th Place

In a three-bet pot, Erich Ponath checked from under the gun to Andrew Rubinberg, who bet 103,000 on a {5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop. Ponath announced all in, and Rubinberg snapped.

Rubinberg: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Ponath: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Ponath looked on in distress as his aces had been outdrawn, and a {2-Hearts} turn and {10-Spades} river were no help to him. Stacks were counted down, and it was determined that Rubinberg had Ponath barely covered.

Ken Payne Eliminated in 8th Place ($9,902)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Ken Payne - 8th Place
Ken Payne - 8th Place

Nick Pupillo opened to 55,000 in the cutoff and got three-bet to 135,000 by Ken Payne in the big blind. Pupillo called, and the flop brought {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}. Payne seemed ready to bet about 175,000, but upon realizing it was almost half of his remaining stack, he shoved.

"I need a count," Pupillo said.

The total was 393,000, and Pupillo cut out enough chips to call, then pushed them in.

Pupillo: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}
Payne: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Payne was in great shape to double, but the {j-Clubs} turn gave Pupillo trips. The {2-Spades} river meant it was a painful end for Baraboo, Wisc., native Payne.
