Up and Down

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

About half of the tournament field is situated downstairs from the main tournament floor, in the cash game room, as the field size is too large to fit up here on the fourth floor.

We went downstairs to see how things were progressing down there, and we spotted recognizable players such as Matt Alexander, Ken Payne and Mark Kroon working to increase their stacks.

In one hand we caught, Alexander check-raised to 600 out of the big blind after his under-the-gun opponent bet 225 on a {9-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop. The player called, and Alexander bet 1,000 on the {3-Hearts} turn and was called again. An {a-Clubs} completed the board and prompted 3,000 from Alexander, and his opponent finally gave up.

Burrows Bets AA Small

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Brent Burrows is one of the more active players at his table.

Brent Burrows bet 2,000 on the river into about a 7,200 pot after Jodi Gumila checked to him from the blinds with the board reading {10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Gumila thought for a bit and double-checked her cards before making the call, and Burrows showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} to take the pot.

Smith Four-Bet Jams to Bust One

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Jason Smith scoops a pot.
Jason Smith scoops a pot.

After Jason Smith called a raise on the button from a player in the cutoff, the flop came {q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. The cutoff bet 800, and Smith popped it to 2,200. The cutoff came back over the top for 5,200 total, and Smith responded by putting his opponent all in, and the player made the call.

Cutoff: {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Smith: {6-Spades}{4-Spades}

Both players had flopped strong hands: Smith with bottom two pair and the cutoff with top pair and a flush draw. Most of the drama ended when the {6-Clubs} fell on the turn, giving Smith a boat and leaving his opponent with just two outs. The {a-Clubs} was a blank on the river, and Smith collected his opponent's stack.

Kroon the Boastful

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon
Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon

Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon just walked by and guaranteed to us that he would finish the night as chip leader. If he fails?

"I'll do naked cartwheels through this casino," he said.

Let's hope Kroon can come through or everyone may soon be a loser: we who will look on in shock and awe, and Kroon, who will be facing indecent exposure charges.

Cussen Puts the Pressure on Burrows

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Brent Burrows opened from middle position and watched a couple of players call before Robb Cussen reraised to 2,200 in the big blind. Burrows called, and everyone else folded.

Cussen bet 2,400 after the {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop, and Burrows called once again. The {j-Hearts} hit the turn, and Cussen increased his sizing by an order of magnitude, moving all in for 24,075. Burrows, who was covered, thought for about a minute before letting his hand go.

Sears Doubles in Strange Pot

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Jerry Gumila got caught trying to strongarm a pot.
Jerry Gumila got caught trying to strongarm a pot.

One of the strangest pots we've seen in some time just went down at a nearby table.

It began with two limps to Jerry Gumila in the cutoff, who raised to 1,350. The button called, Tom Midena called in the big blind, and the first limper called as well. The second limper attempted to call but tossed out an extra orange T1,000 chip. He tried to pull it back after the dealer announced a raise.

"That's a raise," Gumila said. "Call the floor."

The floor ruled that it was indeed a raise, and Gumila pushed all in for about 20,000. The button and Midena quickly folded, and the first limper thought for awhile before mucking as well.

"Sick bet," Jack Sears, the second limper, said. "Call."

Gumila didn't seem excited to reveal his hand, and it was for good reason: he was dominated.

Sears: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Gumila: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{6-Spades}, and Sears doubled up as Gumila shook his head.
