One Record In, One to Go?

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
MSPT Meskwaki
MSPT Meskwaki

According to Mid-States Poker Tour owner Bryan Mileski, the 182-player turnout today is a record for a Day 1a at Meskwaki for the tour, besting the number posted in April en route to a 389-player field that set an Iowa record for a major (buy in greater than $1,000) tournament. Accordingly, that record may be in jeopardy, as Mileski said the tour has gotten more than 200 for the last few Day 1bs here.

Massey's "Gotta Win"

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Ralph Massey called his shot.
Ralph Massey called his shot.

A player at the outermost table in the room was down to his last 100, and he got all in four straight times, winning each one to get up to 15,000. He shoved for a fifth consecutive hand, and Ralph Massey dropped in what looked like 35,000 to isolate him, folding out everyone else.

Massey: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

The player had picked up ace-king, but he needed help against Massey's queens.

"This one, I've gotta win," Massey said confidently as the flop came {7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}.

"I've gotta put an end to it," Massey continued as the {j-Clubs} fell. "Good game."

His words proved true as a {7-Spades} river was no help to Massey's opponent.

Bryan Cracks the Aces

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Jeff Bryan
Jeff Bryan

Jeff Bryan shoved all in from late position with 23,200 and was called by the big blind, who woke up with {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. Bryan had just {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, but a {5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop gave him hope with a gutshot. The straight appeared on the {6-Clubs} turn, and the {3-Clubs} river left Bryan's unfortunate opponent playing the board, while the Nebraskan doubled up.
