MSPT Regional Champ Bobby Sanoubane Bags Day 1c Lead; POY Leader Mark Hodge Falls

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Bobby Sanoubane
Bobby Sanoubane

The third and final starting flight of the Mid-States Poker Tour Golden Gates Casino attracted 223 entrants to Black Hawk, Colorado. Along with Day 1a's 126 and 1b's 161, that brought the total field up to 510 entries – a new record for the stop — and created a $494,700 prize pool, which absolutely obliterated the $200,000 guarantee.

After 16 levels of play, just 40 players bagged chips with Bobby Sanoubane of Aurora, Colorado leading the way with 466,000, which is ahead of both Day 1b chip leader Derek McMaster (450,000) and Day 1a's Ross Reichert (357,500)

Earlier in week, Golden Gates Casino hosted a $360 buy-in $100,000 guaranteed MSPT Regional event, which attracted 770 entrants. Sanoubane, who fired four bullets in the Main Event, took down that tournament for $33,000 after a six-way chop. If there's such a thing as home field advantage in poker, Sanoubane has it.

Others who bagged up big stacks were Nader Wahdan (422,500), James Wilson (392,000), and Steve Baca (362,500). Others who advanced to Day 2 were two time World Series of Poker bracelet winner David Warga, reigning WSOP Millionaire Maker champ Adrian Buckley, Jeff Fielder, and Jose Serratos.

Of course not everyone was so fortunate. Among those to fall on Day 1c were Rex Clinkscales, Allen Kessler, Tyler Corbett, Aaron & Ralph Massey, Travis Nothrope, former MSPT Golden Gates champ Reza Yazdi, MSPT Team Pro Matt Kirby, and current MSPT Player of the Year leader Mark Hodge.

Hodge fell in Level 10 (500/1,000/100) when Wahdan opened for 3,500 under the gun and got five callers, including Hodge with the {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. The flop came down {a-}{2-}{4-} with two spades, and Nader bet 6,000. Action folded to Hodge, and he raised to 16,000, which was about half his stack.

Nader made the call and then shoved all in when a third spade hit the turn. Hodge begrudgingly called off and discovered Nader held two spades for a flush. The river failed to help Hodge, and he headed for the exit.

Hodge currently sits atop the MSPT Season 6 Player of the Year Leaderboard with 3,540 points, a solid 540 ahead of second place Blake Bohn, and has already said he'll be at the MSPT stop next weekend at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells, which you can read more about by clicking here.

Day 2, which will begin with 87 players, will kick off at 12:00 p.m. local time on Sunday and play down to a winner. Who will walk away with the top prize? Be sure to join us then as the PokerNews Live Reporting Team captures all the action!

Flopped Quads Allows Foster to Double Big

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Doug Foster
Doug Foster

Nader Wahdan opened for 9,000 under the gun and Doug Foster called from the hijack. Bryan Johnson came along from the button, as did James Wilson from the big blind, and four players saw a {9-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop. Wilson checked, Wahdan continued for 16,000, and Foster just called.

Johnson then raised all in, Wilson and Wahdan both folded, and Foster snap-called off for 96,000 total.

Foster: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Johnson: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Foster had flopped quads, which meant Johnson needed running kings to win. The {a-Clubs} turn took away any shot of that happening, and Foster was pushed the pot after the {6-Spades} was run out on the river. Johnson was left with just 4,000 after the hand.

Wild Hand Results in Lekarczyk Triple Up and Dillehay Elimination

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
A wild hand.
A wild hand.

In a limped preflop pot, action exploded on a {6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop that saw Mitchell Lekarczyk get his short stack all in against two players. When the {K-Spades} appeared on the turn, Derek Dillehay got his stack in against Corey Zedo to create a side pot.

Zedo: {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Dillehay: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Lekarczyk: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Both Zedo and Dillehay had flopped full houses, but Dillehay's was second best. Meanwhile, Lekarczyk was behind with aces... that is until the {A-Spades} spiked on the river! Lekarczyk tripled with aces full, while Zedo eliminated Dillehay with sevens full.

On to Wisconsin for Kessler

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

Allen Kessler swung by the desk to inform us he'd just been eliminated from the tournament.

According to him, he lost a big pot just before the dinner break. When he returned, he three-bet jammed for 17,000 over the top of a Duma Lowery open.

"He'd been opening a lot," Kessler explained.

Lowery called with {a-}{j-}, which was flipping with Kessler's {7-}{7-}. An ace in the window spelled doom for Kessler, who informed us he would not be reentering. However, he now plans on traveling to Wisconsin for next weekend's MSPT Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells, the penultimate stop of MSPT Season 6.

Munjal Cracks Aces to Eliminate Morrison

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Sean Munjal
Sean Munjal

Sean Munjal hasn't had much luck here in the MSPT Golden Gates Casino, but that just changed.

Munjal, who has several bullets invested, came by our desk to tell us about a big pot he'd just played that resulted in the elimination of Jim Morrison.

According to him, Morrison raised to 2,200 under the gun with the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and Munjul decided to flat from middle position with the {7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. The rest of the field folded, the flop came down {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-}, and Morrison bet 6,000. Munjul just called and the {2-Hearts} turn gave him his flush.

Morrison checked, Munjul bet 15,000, and Morrison check-raised all in for roughly 40,000 total. Munjul, who had roughly the same stack, made the call and managed to survive the river, which was the {K-Spades}.

Current MSPT POY Sends Clinkscales to the Rail

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Mark Hodge
Mark Hodge

Rex Clinkscales paid us a visit to inform us he was just eliminated from the tournament.

According to him, his final hand saw him limp with the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Mark Hodge, who currently sits atop the MSPT Season 6 Player of the Year leaderboard, raise to 550. Three other players called, and Clinkscales sprung to life with a check-raise to 2,750. Hodge pushed back with a four-bet to 7,500, the other three players folded, and Clinkscales five-bet to 13,800. Hodge opted just to call with what turned out to be the {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, and then the two got it all in on the {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop.

Clinkscales, who actually had the bigger stack by 2,000, was ahead, but the {4-Hearts} turn left him drawing dead. The meaningless {10-Diamonds} was put out on the river, and Hodge was pushed the large pot.

Not long after, Clinkscales got his short stack all in preflop holding pocket sevens but failed to hold against the {a-}{10-} of Hodge, who spiked an ace on the flop.

Clinkscales is undecided whether or not he'll fire a third bullet in the MSPT Golden Gates Main Event.

Welcome to the Third and Final Starting Flight of the MSPT Golden Gates Casino

MSPT Golden Gates
MSPT Golden Gates

Season 6 of Mid-States Poker Tour continues today with Day 1c — the third and final starting flight — from the MSPT Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. Last night, 161 entrants took to the felt, which along with Day 1a's 126 brings the current total up 287.

The $200,000 guarantee has already been crushed, and with Day 1c expected to be the biggest flight yet, the question is how high will the prize pool climb?

Among those expected to take part in today's action are former MSPT Golden Gates champ Reza Yazdi, Allen Kessler, Jeff Fielder, Sean Munjal, Mike Harris, MSPT Team Pro Matt Kirby, Aaron Massey, and current MSPT Player of the Year leader Mark Hodge.

All of those players will look to replicate the success of Derek McMaster, who finished atop the Day 1b counts with a stack of 450,000, well ahead of Day 1a chip leader Ross Reichert, who bagged 357,500. All told, 47 players have punched their ticket to Sunday's Day 2 through the first two starting flights.

Day 1c will kick off at 12:00 p.m. local time on Saturday with the plan of playing 16 levels. Late registration and reentries are open all day long, and of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will there every step of the way.
