Ford Gets the Gutshot

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Joe Ford
Joe Ford

Joe Ford just put a short-stacked player at risk with {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} preflop from the cutoff. His opponent in the blinds had a little less than 4,000 and held {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, pairing up on the {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop. Ford needed a seven or runner-runner, and he was able to find the {7-Spades} on the river to make a winning straight.

Ford got off to a great start a couple of weeks ago at Mid-States Poker Tour Running Aces before fizzling out in the money when he took a couple of rough beats. Perhaps he'll have better luck finishing strong this time.

Quadding Early

Two players have made quads early on to take down big pots.

Blake Bohn said he made quad fives with one five in his hand, getting paid off on a big overbet on the river when he put 14,000 into an 8,000 pot.

At another table, Greg Wilson made quads to bust Larry Ormson, who looked less than pleased as he got up from the table. Ormson immediately reentered the tournament.

Stone Doubles Through Wazwaz

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Will Stone
Will Stone

Will Stone bet 700 from early position on a {5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop, and Rob Wazwaz check-raised to 2,700 from the big blind. Stone made it 6,700, and Wazwaz responded with a four-bet to 12,700. Stone moved in, and Wazwaz quickly called.

Wazwaz: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Stone: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

Stone's set was good, but a {7-Clubs} turn meant the possibility of a chop loomed. No straight or king appeared on the river, and Stone grabbed a nice double. Despite the setback, Wazwaz still has about the starting stack.

Holloway Doubles Up

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Chad Holloway
Chad Holloway

Chad Holloway check-called 2,500 from the small blind on a board of {4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} against a cutoff opponent. On the {4-Clubs} river, Holloway gather all of his chips in a stack and slid them forward, 4,975. His opponent thought things over for a few minutes, saying he had blockers to the straight. Ultimately, he decided to call. Holloway flipped {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for the underfull, and he took the pot down to get back above the starting stack.
