Day 1b Started
A hefty turnout of 197 players showed up for Day 1a of Mid-States Poker Tour Ho-Chunk Gaming, which is doubling as the Wisconsin State Poker Championship, with 33 runners making it through the 14 levels of play. Today, Day 1b is set to kick off at 4 p.m. local time, and a comparably large field is expected.
Will Stone is the man to catch, as he bagged 292,500 to lead the way on Day 1a. Others making it through included Mandy Caffee (276,000), Brian Rudolph (252,500), Jeff Petronack (228,000), Zach Shelton (213,000), Mike Mustafa (137,500), Mike Holm (136,500), tour pro Matt Alexander (133,000), Joe Ford (104,500), Kou Vang (93,500), Chad Holloway (93,000), and Ernest Garrett (84,500).
Stacks start at 20,000 apiece, and blinds begin at 50/100, progressing for 14 40-minute levels until everyone left bags up. Each player is allowed one reentry during Day 1b play, so keep in mind an early elimination may not mean the end of a player's time here in the tournament. Registration will close after the break following Level 9, so we'll see how many runners this growing field can draw.

"Why so much?" a player in the cutoff asked Nik Stone, who had shoved his last 10,075 on a board. "It was so quick too. Could be frustrated that you haven't won a hand..."
A minute or two later, the player dropped in calling chips, and Stone rolled over for a ten-high straight.
About a year ago, Stone took second when the Mid-States Poker Tour came here to Ho-Chunk Gaming, banking $53,370 after falling heads up to Jason Sell.
