Welcome To Day 2 of the 2019 MSPT Wisconsin State Poker Championship $1,100 Main Event

Day 2 of the 2019 MSPT Wisconsin State Poker Championship $1,100 Main Event is upon us.

Six hundred and sixty entries took their shots at making it to this point across three starting flights over the last three days. Of those 660, 78 found their way to the end of play on their respective days and will return to Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Sunday as the field combines with their sights set on the first-place prize of $130,935.

Day 1a chip leader Paul Camby put 465,000 into a bag at the end of his evening, and nobody from the two subsequent flights was able to catch him. Igor Hot (452,000) looked like he could eclipse that figure on Day 1c, but play hit the hard stop once the field reached 12 percent on Saturday night more than one full level early. He finished just ahead of Miroslav Semanisin (440,500) for the evening, who comes into the day third in chips.

However, the field has recognizable faces from top to bottom, as players such as Nick Pupillo (250,000), Mike Shin (178,000), Aaron Johnson (157,000), John Sun (61,000), and Andy Tran (46,000) are dotted all over the leader board coming into the day.

The bubble is expected to burst quickly as 72 of the 78 returning players will make it into the money. However, Day 1c’s hard stop left 2:51 on the clock in Level 14 (1,500/3,000/3,000), meaning there will be a bit more time for short stacks to pick their spots than if the day had played to its scheduled conclusion.

Cards will be in the air at 11 a.m. local time with 40-minute levels until heads-up play is reached, at which point they will be reduced to 30 minutes in length. The tournament will play down to a winner today, and the final table will be live-streamed on MSPT’s website.

PokerNews will be providing updates on the action all day long as the path to victory unfolds. Don’t go anywhere.

Ditrapani Outkicks Casper

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Joel Casper saw action folded to him on the button and raised to 8,000. Gerald Heath called from the small blind and Nicola Ditrapani defended his big blind, and the three saw a flop of {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. Action checked to Casper, who made a continuation-bet of 11,000. Heath folded and Ditrapani called.

The turn came {3-Hearts} and Ditrapani checked. Casper thought for about 20 seconds and then fired out a second barrel of 16,000. Ditrapani called. Both players checked the river {9-Diamonds} to take the hand to showdown.

Ditrapani tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for top pair with a queen kicker and Casper showed {k-Spades}, mucking the second card and saying Ditrapani got him by one pip.

Zhou Wins a Flip To Double

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Ralph Massey was on the button and opened to 10,000, receiving a call from William Durkin in the small blind. Songzie Zhou was in the big blind and three-bet all in for 45,000. Massey thought for a couple of seconds and then let his hand go, and Durkin immediately announced a call thereafter.

William Durkin: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Songjie Zhou: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Zhou was in a coin flip situation for his tournament life but found comfort in the flop {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}. The turn {4-Diamonds} ensured his double as a meaningless {a-Diamonds} fell on the river to complete the runout.

Belland Takes a Small Stand

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Steve Belland saw action folded to him in the small blind and completed, putting action on to Matthew Levin in the big blind. Levin raised his option to 14,000 and Belland called.

The flop came {10-Spades}{j-Spades}{a-Spades} and Belland checked. Levin made a continuation-bet of 11,000 and Belland quickly put out chips to call. Both players then checked the turn {10-Clubs}.

The river fell {2-Diamonds} and Belland put out 10,000. Levin went into the tank, thinking for well over a minute before letting his hand go.

Early Eliminations Reach the Bubble

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Andy Tran
Andy Tran

The following players have become the first five casualties of the day, with Andy Tran having stopped by the MSPT booth on his way out.

According to Tran, he got all in with ace-queen suited against king-six offsuit. The flop brought a six for his opponent but also gave him the nut flush draw. He was unable to fill up and found himself as one of the handful to not make the money on Day 2.

The tournament is now in hand-for-hand play.

Big Stacks Battle in the Blinds

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

There was a pot with around 200,000 in the middle on the river with the board reading {9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Umut Ozturk had a bet of 75,000 out in front of him from the small blind. Action was on Miroslav Semanisin, who was in the big blind.

Semanisin thought for well over two minutes as the clock continued to count down, with audible conversation coming from other tables who did not know the magnitude of the hand that was occurring, wondering if they could call a clock on a player at another table.

Eventually, Semanisin pushed forward a stack of chips to call and the dealer announced as such. Ozturk tabled {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} for ace-queen high and Semanisin turned over {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, taking down the pot with top pair, top kicker on the four-to-a-straight board to vault him over two-thirds of a million in chips.
