Welcome to Day 1c of the 2019 MSPT Wisconsin State Poker Championship

Milwaukee Potawatomi Casino
Milwaukee Potawatomi Casino

The third and final starting flight of the 2019 MSPT Wisconsin State Poker Championship $1,100 Main Event commences today at 1 p.m. local time.

Yesterday’s Day 1b added 233 entries to Day 1a’s turnout of 120, meaning the two-day total of 353 has already surpassed the tournament’s $300,000 guaranteed prize pool, and the sky is the limit as Day 1c expected to be the largest flight of the three. As far as the happenings through the first two days, 42 players have put their names onto the Day 2 roster, and Day 1a chip leader Paul Camby (465,000) and Day 1b chip leader Umut Ozturk lead the way as the only two players over 400,000.

Day 1c will boast the same structure as the first two flights, with 15 levels of 40 minutes in length on the schedule and breaks after the completion of every three levels. Players receive 15,000 starting stacks with an optional $10 add-on for another 5,000. One reentry is allowed should things go south, and the late registration period will remain open until the beginning of Level 13.

Notable players such as Daniel Bekarac, Jason Seitz, Aaron Johnson, and Phil Mader have already unsuccessfully taken shots at advancing, and some or all of them are expected to be back in on the action for this final chance at finding a bag on Day 1c.

PokerNews will be on hand to report on all the action, so stay tuned to find out who else makes it through.

Gahan Finds a Hero Call for Stacks

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Kyle Gahan
Kyle Gahan

The board read {j-Spades}{a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Clubs} in a heads up pot with around 20,000 in the middle and the cutoff was all in for 10,400. Action was on Kyle Gahan in the big blind, who was facing a decision for all of his chips.

After at least two minutes, Gahan called and hands were tabled.

Cutoff: {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Kyle Gahan: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Gahan found a call with nothing more than top pair, second kicker, and it wound up being the correct decision as he found his opponent had pure air. Gahan's stack was totaled to 10,300, scoring him the full double and leaving his opponent with a stack totaling one chip of the smallest denomination.

"That Was a Pretty Good Runout"

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Aaron Massey in Day 1b action
Aaron Massey in Day 1b action

There was around 8,000 in the pot on the river with a board of {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Aaron Massey had a bet of 4,900 out in front of him from early position. Action was on the cutoff, who was thinking about his decision.

After over a minute, a call was announced. Massey quickly tabled {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs} to show a full house and began to take his bet back. His opponent had thrown a T5,000 chip in to call and Massey tossed him a T100 chip for change as he collected his newly-acquired chips.

"That was a pretty good runout!" said the player in the one-seat. Massey looked up and nodded slightly in approval.

Delayed Continuation-Bet Works for Johnson

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Aaron Johnson
Aaron Johnson

A payer in early position opened to 800 and was called by players behind him in middle position and on the button. Aaron Johnson then three-bet to 5,700 from the small blind.

The early-position player folded and both other players called, taking three-way action to a flop of {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}. All three players checked.

The turn came {k-Spades} and Johnson sat stoically for about 15 seconds before throwing out a bet of 6,500. The middle-position player thought for a couple seconds and then shook his head in a slightly nodding fashion. He then folded. The player on the button folded shortly thereafter and Johnson quickly took back his bet and scooped up the pot that was shipped his way.

Brinn Gets a KO

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante
Cody Brinn
Cody Brinn

Cody Brinn was overheard wishing an opponent a good game as the runout on his table finished. The board read {6-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades}{j-Diamonds}, and Brinn's winning hand of {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} was still tabled, showing Broadway.

Brinn shared the remaining details, saying he was on the button opened to 1,300. The small blind three-bet all in with {a-}{6-} and Brinn called. He had the player drawing dead on the turn despite the three outer coming before it on the flop, and now has a stack of 53,500 after taking down the pot.

Henderson Delivers a Cooler

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Dedric Henderson
Dedric Henderson

An early-position player opened to 2,200 and action folded around to Dedric Henderson, who three-bet to 9,000 out of the big blind. The player shoved all in and Hudson quickly called.

Early Position: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Dedric Henderson: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, giving Henderson a small sweat on the turn when his opponent picked up a draw to Broadway. The clean river completed the runout and the dealer broke down stacks.

The early-position player's stack was counted to be 18,400 and Hudson's was totaled to be 20,400, leaving the early-position player dry on chips as the pot was sent Henderson's way, effectively giving him a full double to reach an even two stacks of chips.

Dombrowski Takes from Taleb Before Break

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Dan Dombrowski
Dan Dombrowski

Players are on their third 10-minute break of the night.

Shortly before the break, action folded around to Dan Dombrowski who pumped it up to 2,600 from the small blind. Ahmed Taleb was in the big blind and defended.

The flop dropped {9-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and Dombrowski made a continuation-bet of 2,100. Taleb raised to 6,500 and Dombrowski thought for about 20 seconds before putting out calling chips.

Both players checked the turn {5-Hearts} to bring the river {7-Diamonds}. Dombrowski sat for a bit and then put out a bet of 10,700. Taleb quickly called.

Dombrowski tabled {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a rivered two pair and Taleb mucked, shaking his head as he did so.

Joseph Makes Correct Call To Oust Bryant

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Johanssy Joseph
Johanssy Joseph

Jill Bryant opened to 3,000 from early position and action folded around to Johanssy Joseph, who defended his big blind. The dealer fanned a flop of {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{q-Spades} and Joseph checked. Bryant fired out a continuation-bet of 5,300 and Joseph called.

The turn was {8-Diamonds} and both players checked to bring the river {9-Spades}. Joseph bet 17,000, a nearly pot-sized bet, and Bryant went all in over the top for what was totaled to be 65,600. Joseph went into the tank.

"Sixty-five, six?" asked Joseph after some time. The dealer confirmed and he went back into the tank. He finally settled on a call.

Bryant turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} with a wry grin, showing nothing more than ace-king high to accompany the board's pair of queens. Joseph showed {a-Spades}{2-Spades} for the nut flush, good to send Bryant to the rail for a quick moment, as she has just sat down again to fire her second and final bullet into the event with around 10 minutes left in Level 10.

Miller Sends a Chilling Blow

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Bryant Miller
Bryant Miller

Bryant Miller opened the action with a raise to 2,500 from middle position and action folded around to the player on the button, who called. The small blind also called, as did Dedric Henderson from the big blind to take postflop action four ways.

The flop dropped {9-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and both blinds checked. Miller fired a continuation-bet of 3,000, which was raised to 8,000 by the player on the button. Both blinds folded and Miller thought for a few moments before putting out a T5,000 chip to complete the call.

The turn came {k-Diamonds} and Bryant checked. The player on the button bet another 8,000 and Bryant made the call.

Bryant then checked again on the river {a-Clubs} and his opponent put out a bet of 23,000. Miller thought for around a minute and then announced a check-raise all in. His opponent seemed disgusted and confused as he processed the situation and the dealer reached forward to the five-seat to cut out Miller's stack for a count as he anticipated him to spend some time making his decision. It was not necessary.

"I call," said Bryant's opponent just before the dealer was about to reach Miller's chips.

Miller tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for the nuts; a full house, aces full of kings.

"Ace-nine?" asked tablemate Saad Ghanem. He was close - {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} became visible on the table, showing that the player had flopped a set that became the second-best full house when all was said and done. The player barely covered Bryant's stack, earning him a full double to bring him well over 200,000 at the close of Level 10.
