Gleave Ends Ovind

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Blake Ovind
Blake Ovind

After an early-position player limped, Blake Ovind raised all in for 16,700 from middle position. Justin Gleave thought for a bit before calling from the big blind and the limper got out of the way.

Blake Ovind: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Justin Gleave: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Both players had an ace but Gleave's kicker had him out in front.

The {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop put out some chop options for Ovind, but the {a-Hearts} turn meant he'd need another king or ace to appear just to chop.

The {9-Hearts} river wasn't what he was looking for and Ovind headed for the exit.

2021 MSPT South Dakota State Poker Championship Coming Up May 14-16

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Silverado Deadwood
Silverado Deadwood

After the MSPT leaves California, they’ll head back to the Midwest to Silverado-Franklin Casino in Deadwood for the $1,100 South Dakota State Poker Championship from May 14-16, 2021.

In the past, the South Dakota State Poker Championship has been a standalone event at Silverado-Franklin dating back to 2011, but in 2018 they joined forces with the MSPT. In 2017, Ryan Skluzak topped a field of 136 entries to win the 2017 South Dakota State Poker Championship for $37,500. The first year partnered with the MSPT, the field grew to 286 runners and saw Rick Burleson take it down for $63,462, and in 2019 it was Sergio Mireles besting a 258-entry field to win it for $60,946.

The Silverado-Franklin Hotel & Gaming Complex offers more than 360 different slot machines, Deadwood’s largest table games area (Caribbean Stud, 4-Card Poker, Let It Ride, and 3-Card Poker all with a $1,000 betting limit), and a poker room. In addition, there is great food and drink options at Legends Steakhouse, Silverado Grand Buffet, and the Veranda, which offers unique views of historic Mount Moriah Cemetery, White Rocks, and the town of Deadwood.

Deadwood is known for many things but for poker players it's perhaps best known for aces and eights, otherwise known as the Deadman’s Hand. In 1876, Wild Bill Hickok held that hand in a game of poker at a saloon just a few blocks from the present-day Silverado when he was shot by Jack McCall.

Field Hits 1,000 Runners!

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Day 1c just passed the 420-entry mark, which means combined with the Day 1a and 1b flights, the total field crossed 1,000 runners!

Late registration and re-entries are open for another two hours, so that number will only grow from here.

Javier Sends Two to the Rail

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
AJ Javier
AJ Javier

The preflop action escaped us but we do know that two players were all in for approximately 14,000 and 17,000 respectively and at risk against AJ Javier.

AJ Javier: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Opponent #1: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Opponent #2: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Javier was out in front and took a hammerlock on the hand when the flop fell {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} to give him a set.

The {3-Diamonds} turn left both at-risk players drawing dead, and Javier scored the double knockout after the meaningless {8-Hearts} was run out on the river.

Reyes vs. Chow

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Ramon Reyes, who emerged as the early chip leader with 240,000 in Level 5 but has since slid down a bit, raised to 2,500 from the hijack and WSOPC ring winner Bob Chow called from the button.

Both blinds folded and it was heads-up action to the {9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop. Reyes continued for 3,000 and Chow wasted little time in making the call.

On the {5-Clubs} turn, Reyes slowed down with a check and then folded when Chow bet 5,000.
