The second flight of the Grand Falls $1,110 Main Event of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) fires up today at the Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa.

Day 1b starts at 3 p.m. this afternoon. With a $200,000 guarantee, 27 players have already played their way to Day 2 on Sunday. Today's entrants will look to join them, and flight 1b is their last chance to do so.

Last year's Grand Falls Main Event saw 532 total entrants generate a prize pool of $514,540, far surpassing the guarantee. It was Nicholas "grizpoker" Smith, from Indianapolis, Indiana who came out on top of that field to win $110,633 and his first MSPT title.

Uppal Slowplays Aces

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

Jay Philips raised to 400 from early position and found two callers, the small blind and Varun Uppal in the big blind.

The flop came out {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and all three players decided to check the low board.

On the {4-Hearts} turn, action again checked to Uppal who elected to bet 700. The small blind folded, but Uppal made the call.

The river brought the {j-Clubs} and Uppal checked once more. Philips fired 1,500 on the final street. Uppal thought for a bit before making the call.

Philips revealed {q-Spades}{j-Spades} for rivered top pair, but that was no good against the slowplayed {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} of Uppal.

Burke Gets Paid

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

Action picked up on the river in a large early pot with about 15,000 in the middle. The board showed {4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}.

Chris Burke was in position against his sole opponent who had checked the river. Burke went for a bet of 7,000. After thinking for about a minute, his opponent made the call.

Burke rolled over {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for two pair on the river and the winner.

Cobb Plays for Stacks, Gets the Max

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Lee Cobb
Lee Cobb

Action began on the flop with the board showing {6-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Lee Cobb was on the button and battling against the big blind.

Cobb bet 2,000 in position and his opponent made the call.

On the {10-Diamonds} turn, Lee bet 3,500 when checked to, again his opponent made the call.

The river brought the {5-Diamonds}, the backdoor flush draw completing. This time, the big blind led for 5,000. Cobb didn't think long before sliding his entire stack into the middle, about 21,000, having his opponent slightly covered.

The big blind thought for about 45 seconds and committed his stack as well.

Big blind: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Lee Cobb: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Cobb seemed to know just where he was at as his overpair stacked the top pair of his opponent for all the chips.

Uppal Forces a River Fold

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Two players were battling over a pot of about 3,000 on the turn with a board of {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

Jason Rice led from out of position for 1,000 before running into a raise to 2,500 from Varun Uppal on the button. Rice made the call.

After Uppal's turn raise, the river fell the {a-Diamonds} and Rice checked in flow. Uppal followed up with a bet of 8,000. Rice thought for a bit before tossing his cards into the muck.
