Day 1b Started

Welcome To Day 1b of the MSPT Black Hawk $360 Regional

Bally's Black Hawk
Bally's Black Hawk

Registration has already begun as of 10 a.m. local time for Thursday's Day 1b of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Black Hawk $360 Regional, and an inspired turnout of players is expected to make its way to Bally's Black Hawk to add their totals to the 151 entries that were recorded in Wednesday's initial flight. In doing so, the tournament will also continue to near closer to reaching its $150K guaranteed prize pool that will surely be surpassed by the time registration closes on Saturday's fourth and final flight.

Cards are in the air at noon for Day 1b, the same as all other starting flights. Players receive starting stacks of 25,000 with blinds beginning at 100/100 and a big-blind ante in play all tournament long. Ten-minute breaks will take place at the completion of Levels 4 and 8 (two hours of play apiece) with a 40-minute dinner break after Level 12. Play will then conclude at the completion of Level 15 unless 12% of the field remains prior to that, which would bring about a hard stop for the flight.

Late registration with unlimited re-entries is open through the dinner break until the beginning of Level 13, closing at approximately 7 p.m. local time. Any players who make it through to the end of the day and wish to take another shot must forfeit their stack prior to bagging, as this is not a best-stack-forward event.

Day 1a chip leader James Rodriguez (675,000) set a high mark for all others to shoot for, though another full day's worth of poker will be needed to determine whether anybody can catch him. PokerNews will be on the floor all day long bringing you updates along the way.

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante
Peter Johnson
Peter Johnson

Nearly 6,000 was in the middle on a board reading {8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and a player in early position had a bet of 3,000 in front of him in a heads-up pot. Action was on Peter Johnson, who was in the hijack and found a call.

The river came {7-Hearts} and the early-position player bet another 5,500. Johnson thought for around half a minute and then threw in chips to call.

The early-position player showed {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} for the nut-no pair, which prompted Johnson to table two pair {8-Hearts}{7-Spades} to take down the pot.

Ruff Gets Three Streets of Value

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Clayton Ruff
Clayton Ruff

A heads-up pot between Clayton Ruff in early position and his opponent in middle position sent 5,000 into the middle before a flop of {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Ruff fired out 4,000 and his opponent called.

The turn came {3-Spades} and Ruff bet 5,000. His opponent thought for close to 30 seconds and then tossed in a chip to match it, bringing the river {q-Clubs}. Ruff then threw out another 5,000 and his opponent took about 10 seconds before calling once more to take the hand to showdown.

Ruff showed {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and his opponent mucked, resulting in him taking down the pot with his two kings.
