Barnett Leads Day 1b at MSPT Riverside $1,100 Main Event

Another strong showing of 520 entries showed on Saturday for Day 1b of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Riverside $1,100 Main Event to play a full 15 levels with their sights set on joining the 57 who made it through Friday's Day 1a. When play finished, 63 remained and one player bagged north of half a million — Hunter Barnett with 501,000.

Barnett shot to the top of the counts during the last hour of play in the night after winning a massive pot with pocket kings against pocket aces. Four bets went in preflop with more chips going in postflop before stacks got in after a king hit on the river to give Barnett a set. Following in the counts are Howard Dion (493,000), Jason Ramos (454,000), Jalen Heald (409,000), and Jason Gross (387,000).

Other notables to bag included Nicola Ditrapani (277,000), Ryan Phan (211,000), Benjamin Craig (162,000), Brad Sailor (152,000), and Jonathan Kim (134,000).

Meanwhile, plenty of others such as Daniel Sepiol, Jeff Fielder, Aaron Johnson, Michael Berk, and Taylor Howard were unable to find themselves on the Day 2 roster.

Out of 928 total entries, a total 120 remaining players will return at 11 a.m. local time on Sunday to play down to one with the top 99 making it into the money. PokerNews will be back at it then to take you all the way to the finish line.

Prize Pool Information Released

Official prize pool numbers have been announced and a total of 928 entries generated a prize pool of $898,660. The top 99 places will make it into the money, earning at least $2,156 for their efforts. The eventual winner will take home $170,769.

Cowboys Kind To Venhaus

Benjamin Craig was under the gun and pumped it up to 2,500. The player on the button called and then Kevin Venhaus three-bet to 6,200 in the big blind.

"I'm all in," said Craig after confirming the action. His six-figure stack was more than enough to put both players all in, and the player on the button quickly folded before Venhaus wasted no time announcing a call.

Dominguez Toasted; Phan Cages an Opponent

The dealer was in the process of finishing a runout with Edmon Dominguez all-in preflop for the last of his chips with two jacks. His opponent had two fives.

Two more fives appeared on the flop, causing a rauckus from the entire table.

"Give him quads, why don't you?!" joked Dominguez, who stood up and left the table as he failed to hit running quads of his own.

Meanwhile, Ryan Phan was also just spotted taking the last of another player's chips with after the river brought a completed board of . Upon calling it all off with the second-best hand, Phan's opponent sent his cards to the muck and the dealer scooped them up without exposing them.

Phan entered shortly before the first break of the day and is off to a fast start now, already chipping up to 65K.

Velentzas Jams the Turn

There was an under-the-gun raise to 800 that drew five calls behind, two of which were by Steve Wilkie in middle position and Nick Velentzas in the cutoff.
