Baime chipped up to 280,000 in a hand that saw the board read {4-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{j-Hearts} on the turn. Baime checked from the big blind, Nicholas Smith bet 20,000, and Baime checl-raised all-in.

Smith put his 113,000 total stack at risk by making the call.

The MSPT United States Poker Championship hits the home stretch this weekend, with the $1,110 Main Event taking center stage. The series schedule includes 11 events, however, with the bulk of the schedule playing out earlier this week at Sycuan Casino.

Event #4: $200 Ladies Event, played out on Sunday, Sept. 19. Courtney Adams topped the field and took down the event, the first of two wins at the MSPT United States Poker Championship for Adams so far.

Ken Baime Leads the Pack After Day 1a of the MSPT Sycuan Casino $1,110 Main Event

The first of three starting flights is done at the MSPT United States Poker Championship Sycuan Casino $1,110 Main Event. The Sycuan Casino Event Center hosted Day 1a action on Thursday, with Day 1b set for Friday and Day 1c scheduled for Saturday.

The survivors from the trio of Day 1 phases will come back as a combined field on Sunday and play down to a champion. The first 12 of those names made it through Day 1 on Thursday.

Ken Baime (478,000) topped the chip leaderboard at night's end. Other big stacks included all-time MSPT money leader Rich Alsup (469,000), and Lucille Hargett (399,000)

A total of 102 entries came through the San Diego, CA casino to play on Day 1a. Other notable names making it through the night included Jose Araya (201,000), Patsy Cortez Karimi (161,000) and Ben Boston (149,000).

All Day 1 flights play through 15 40-minute levels, or down to 12 percent of the field. The latter happened on Day 1a, with play ending on Level 14 with 12 players surviving.

The $300,000 guaranteed tournament continues Friday, with Day 1b scheduled to start at 3 p.m. local time.
