Ben Farrell Bags Day 1b Chip Lead of MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Ben Farrell

After another 15 levels, Day 1b of the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour (MSPT) has come to an end. Day 1b more than doubled the amount of entries of Day 1a with 530. By the day's end, that number dwindled down to 75 remaining entrants.

This time around, it was England's Ben Farrell who came out on top with 501,000 chips by the end of the day. Farrell, who has over $1 million in total live earnings according to thehendonmob.com, is looking to add to an already impressive poker resume that includes a third-place finish in a $5,300 Wynn Winter Classic event and a first-place finish in a $1,700 Goliath Phamous Poker Series event (both in 2019).

Other players to bag big stacks include Harlen Miller (492,500), Jonathan Dokler (441,500), Jovan Sudar (405,500), and WSOP-bracelet winner Stephen Song (360,000).

More notables who managed to make it to Day 2 include Anthony Marquez, Benjamin Moon, Rodger Johnson, Ryan Franklin, Mike Dentale, and John Morgan.

Some players who fell short include JJ Liu, Matt Affleck, Maria Konnikova, Aaron Massey, Jerod Smith, and Joe McKeehen — all of whom will have plenty of chances to bag in Days 1c and 1d if they choose.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for another full day of action as the MSPT $1,100 Main Event ($1.5M GTD) continues with Day 1c, which is set to begin tomorrow at 11:10 a.m. local time.

Laplante's Crumbs Soon Devoured

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Ryan Laplante
Ryan Laplante

Ryan Laplante opened to 4,000 from the lojack and action folded to the player in the big blind, who shoved for a bit over 30,000. Laplante asked for a count and eventually called.

Laplante: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Big blind: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

It was a fair fight going into the runout, which came {k-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{q-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades} and offered no help to Laplante, who was left with just 6,000 behind.

On the very next hand, Laplante shoved and was called by the same player that doubled through him.

Laplante held {q-Spades}{6-Spades} against his opponent's {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and failed to improve.

JJ Liu

Nicholas Palma opened to 4,000 from the cutoff and was called by a player in the small blind and JJ Liu in the big blind.

Action checked to Liu, who led out for 5,500 on the {7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop. Palma got out of the way, but the player in the small blind then check-raised to approximately 15,000. Undeterred, Liu quickly shoved for a bit more than 60,000 and her opponent rapped the table before folding.

A player in the cutoff opened to 800 and was flatted by another player on the button. Action folded around to Ryan Laplante, who squeezed to 3,500. The initial raiser went all-in for their last 6,000 and the button folded.

Laplante: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Cutoff: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The {k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{j-Clubs}{2-Hearts} runout ran clean for Laplante, who scooped the pot and eliminated his opponent.
