Max Corcoran Bags Day 1d Chip Lead of MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Day 1d Chip Leader Max Corcoran
Day 1d Chip Leader Max Corcoran

After four long hard-fought days of poker, all Day 1’s of the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,100 (1.5M GTD) Main Event have come to an end. Today, it was Max Corcoran from Arizona who stood tall among the many after bagging 548,500 in chips.

Day 1d began play with nearly 500 entrants and steadily increased up until late registration ended – coming in at a total of 1,233. By the day’s end, that number had dwindled to fewer than 200.

Taken altogether, Day 1a through Day 1d had a combined total of 2,790 entries. This brings the official prize pool to $2,692,350 – well beyond the $1.5 million guarantee.

A total of 297 players will cash, with a min-cash being worth $2,423 and the eventual champion taking home a cool $367,801.

Notables who managed to bag into Day 2 include Jerod Smith (140,500), Steven Wilkie (130,500), Jacob Rich (327,600), Jeremy Calverley (116,000), Nicholas Palma (39,000), and Joe Cada (65,500), who nursed a short stack for much of the evening.

Among those who didn’t make the cut were Irene Carey, Ari Engel, Dan Sears, Ralph Massey, Matt Affleck, Jesse Sylvia, and Allen Kessler.

Day 2 is set to begin a 11 a.m. local time, with players encouraged to come a bit early so as to unbag their chips. The money bubble is expected to burst shortly after play begins.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as we continue to bring you all the action from Day 2 of the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,100 (1.5M GTD) Main Event.

Cada Finds a Double

Level 13 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

Joe Cada shoved for his last 34,500 from under-the-gun and directly behind him, another player also went in for more. Everyone else folded and hands were revealed.

Cada: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Early position player: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Cada found himself dominated and in rough shape, but that all changed on the {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop — giving Cada both a pair of sevens and a flush draw to go with it.

Cada made trips on the {7-Clubs} river and an irrelevant {10-Diamonds} completed the board, making Cada's double-up official.

Kessler Counterfeited; KO'd on Last Hand Before Break

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Allen Kessler on Day 1c
Allen Kessler on Day 1c

Allen Kessler shoved for his last 22,500 from early position and was called by two players from lojack and hijack respectively.

The flop came {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and the player in the lojack fired 27,000 into the middle. The player in the hijack responded by raising to 70,000. Her opponent agonized over the decision, but eventually decided to fold.

Hijack: {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Kessler: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

"Oh my god, I can't believe I'm ahead!" Kessler exclaimed.

Kessler would stay ahead on the {a-Hearts} turn, but a double board-pairing {6-Diamonds} counterfeited Kessler's pair and eliminated him from the tournament.

"It's the PokerNews curse," Kessler stated in disbelief.

Jacob Rich
Jacob Rich

On a {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Spades}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} board and about 100,000 already in the middle, a player in the small blind checked to Jacob Rich in the big, who cut out a bet to 34,000 and slid it into the middle. The third player in the hand folded from the cutoff and the player in the small blind revealed the {j-Spades} before tossing his hand into the muck.

Rich, who took down a WSOP Circuit event in 2019, is sitting pretty with about 250k in chips.

Ryan Riess on Day 1c
Ryan Riess on Day 1c

Ryan Riess, who registered just before the start of level 10, pushed all in for his last 13,500 from the lojack. A player in the cutoff called and the player on the button went all in himself for 29,000. Action folded back to the cutoff, who tanked, but eventually folded.

Riess: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}
Button: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Riess was in rough shape, and the {9-Spades}{k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} ran out clean for his opponent, eliminating the 2013 WSOP Main Event champion from the tournament.

Gadelov Soaring

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Arkado Gadelov
Arkado Gadelov

A player in early position raised to 1,500 and was called directly behind by Arkado Gadelov and two players from the cutoff and big blind.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and action checked to Gadelov, who bet 2,200. Everyone folded except the big blind, who called.

Both players checked on the {4-Diamonds} turn and Gadelov's opponent checked again on the {j-Clubs} river, prompting a 5,500 bet from Gadelov. The big blind quickly folded and Gadelov scooped the pot.

Gadelov is among the chip leaders, if not thee current chip leader with approximately 200,000 in chips.

Cada Climbing

Joe Cada Early in Day 1d
Joe Cada Early in Day 1d

Joe Cada opened to 1,000 from the cutoff and was three-bet to 2,600 by the player directly behind him on the button. Action folded back to Cada, who quickly slid a stack of 5,000 denomination chips into the middle. His opponent called off for less and hands were revealed.

Cada: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Button: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Cada was well out in front and would stay that way on the {a-Spades}{5-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} runout.

The 2009 WSOP Main Event winner is sitting pretty in the early stages of Day 1d with about 85,000 in chips.

Carey Gets Flushed

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Irene Carey
Irene Carey

A player from early position raised to 500 and was flatted by Irene Carey in middle position. Action folded to the player in the cutoff, who three-bet to 2,000. The initial raiser called, but Carey then back-raised all in for about 19,000 total. The three-bettor called all-in for a bit less than 10,000 and the other player folded.

Carey: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Cutoff: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Carey had her opponent dominated and increased her lead even more on the {j-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop.

However, the {7-Spades} turn and {4-Spades} river would give Carey's opponent a runner-runner flush to double through her.

Carey was knocked down to 9,600 after the hand.
