Final Table Set to Start

Aristoteles Neto - Day 2 chip leader

It's the final day of the 2014 PPC Aruba World Championship $2,200 Main Event and the final ten players will be starting play in just a little over an hour here. They are playing for the $72,163 first place prize and PPC Main Event trophy as well as a $5,000 package to next years Main Event. It's sure to be an exciting, action-packed day of poker here on the beautiful island of Aruba.

Aristoteles Neto comes into the final day with the chip lead with 763,000 in chips. That's 244,000 more than his nearest competitor, Josh Kay. Rounding out the top three is World Series of Poker bracelet winner, Joe Ebanks, who took second in this very event last year.

Ebanks is perhaps the most recognizable name at the final table but there are plenty of familiar faces sitting nearby. South Florida poker pro Steve Karp comes in with a short stack at 155,000 but if anyone has the experience to mount a comeback it would be him. Karp has nearly $900,000 in career tournament earnings and has numerous final tables to his credit. Young online pro Ryan Franklin is looking to add to his live tournament resume and John Ott needs to finish 8th or better to move into the lead on the PPC Player of the Year leaderboard. Winning that would give him a return ticket to this event next year.

Shakoor Doubles on First Hand, Karp on Second Hand

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Aftab Shakoor moved all in on the first hand with {A-Spades}{8-Spades} and would double up against Joe Ebanks {3-}{3-} when an ace would hit the turn. The very next hand, Ryan Franklin would move all in first to act from the small blind to apply pressure on the short-stacked Steve Karp but it was bad timing as Karp woke up with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. Franklin's {8-Clubs}{7-Spades} was unable to put a beat on Karp and just like that two of the shorter stacks have doubled up.

Ted Ely Eliminated in 10th Place ($5,283)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Ted Ely - 10th place
Ted Ely - 10th place

Ted Ely moved all in first to act for slightly more than 130,000 and Ryan Franklin, one to his left, moved all in as well. The rest of the table folded and Ely turned over {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and was up against Franklin's {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

The flop came {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds} to give both players a pair with Franklin's aces in the lead. The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and the river was the {7-Diamonds} and Ely is the first player eliminated today. He finishes in 10th place for $5,283.

Shakoor Doubles Again

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Aftab Shakoor was all in and at risk against John Ott and the two were racing with Shakoor holding {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and Ott {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}. The flop came {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to keep Ott in the lead and he would keep that lead on the {5-Clubs} turn. Shakoor needed an ace, king, or queen on the river to stay alive and would do just that when the dealer put out the {K-Hearts}. A fist pump and celebratory clap came from Shakoor as he has moved from 73,000 to start the day to 375,000.

Ott fell to 175,000. He needs seventh to tie for PPC Player of the Year and sixth to win it so it's looking like he will need to hit at least one double up in order to do that.

Richard Bowers Eliminated in 9th Place ($6,518)

Richard Bowers - 9th Place
Richard Bowers - 9th Place

Aristoteles Neto opened for 25,000 and Rick Bowers moved all in for approximately 230,000. It was folded back to Neto who asked how much it was and then slid forward a stack of chips to indicate a call while turning over {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

Bowers stood up and turned over {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}. The dealer put out a flop of {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades} to keep him in the lead but the {K-Spades} on the turn meant only an eight would keep Bowers in the tournament. The river was the {3-Spades} and Bowers studied the board closely before muttering "hmmmmm" to himself. "Good game guys," he said, gathering his things.

Neto continues to hold the chip lead and is the first to top a million in chips.
