Down to the Final Nine Tables

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Mike Panteli walked into the tournament area to bump fists with several players and wished them good luck including current big stack James Rann. There was only one reason for that as Panteli had been among the last four casualties and the field was reduced to 72 players, spread evenly over the last nine tables.

Sharda and Progner Bow Out in Quick Succession

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Ravi Sharda ended up all-in and at risk for what appeared to be 60,000 and he was snap-called by Tim Slater in the big blind.

Ravi Sharda: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Tim Slater: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs} board kept the superior hand in the lead throughout as Slater scored the knockout with the superior flush.

Also no longer in contention is Boris Progner, who departed right after on the same table. Down to a short stack he got it in with the {q-Clubs}{10-Spades} only for Youness Barakat to snap him off with the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}. The {j-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades} board left Progner drawing dead on the turn while Barakat chipped up further after the earlier setbacks.

Bashlawi Doubles Through Jennings

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

In a battle button versus small blind, Alex Jennings bet the {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop and Max Bashlawi called. The {a-Hearts} followed on the turn and Jennings check-shoved for Bashlawi to call all-in for 156,000.

Max Bashlawi: {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Alex Jennings: {9-Clubs}{6-Spades}

Jennings needed a nine or six to avoid a major blow to his stack but the {q-Diamonds} river bricked as he was left with around four blinds.

The new bigger stack on the table is Kully Sidhu, who has been steadily building chips in the first three hours of play.

Eddie Saade
Eddie Saade

"Good game, unlucky man," the consolation came for Eddie Saade who had just bowed out on one of the corner tables. Paul Trotter had dealt the final blow as his {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} had made trips jacks on the {j-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{9-Hearts} board. Saade was at risk preflop with fives and became the 70th place finisher.

Atanas Pavlov
Atanas Pavlov

The action kicked off with a cutoff raise to 13,000 by Antoine Saout and Atanas Pavlov then three-bet to 48,000 out of the small blind with a stack of around 220,000. Saout then moved all-in and Pavlov called it off to create the following showdown.

Atanas Pavlov: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Antoine Saout: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop gave Saout trips aces and he retained the lead throughout the {6-Spades} turn and {k-Clubs} river.

Jennings Still in the Mix

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Alex Jennings had doubled his very short stack when his dominating ace fell behind. He vaulted out of the chair but spiked his kicker to stay in contention. Only a few minutes later, he got it in again for 37,000 with the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and Alberto Speranzoni looked him up with {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

The {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts} board awarded yet another double up to Jennings. In the meanwhile, Stephen Lockett was spotted at the payout desk as the field was whittled down to the final 67 contenders.

Saout Knocks Out Ene

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Florian Duta doubled through Antoine Saout and the next Romanian to get his chips in was Gabriel Ene, who three-bet jammed for around 90,000. Saout instantly flicked in a single chip for the call to put Ene at risk.

Gabriel Ene: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Antoine Saout: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The {a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop left Ene on the brink of elimination and he had zero equity on the {3-Spades} turn, which made the {10-Clubs} river a formality.

Duta Left Short; Wang Hits Miracle River

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Angelos Nastos Megas has become the next player to run out of chips while Florian Duta was left very short and Lei Wang nailed a two-outer to escape from elimination.

Duta flipped with the {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} against Lukas Dimsa with the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}. The Lithuanian got there on the {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and doubled for 123,000.

Moments later, Wang's last 62,000 went in preflop with {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}. Alex Whitenstall had him pipped by a notch with the {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} but saw the board run out {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.
