358 Entrants As Level 6 Begins

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

The tournament room at the Casino de Marrakech continues to get busier and busier. The Day 1c field is now up to 358 players of which 281 are still hoping to build a stack to help them compete in Day 2 and beyond. With three more blind levels until late registration, it will be close as to whether last year's Day 1c field size of 411 is exceeded or not.

Pierre Calamusa Among the Chip Leaders, But Loses a Pot to "Tsunamy"

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Pierre Calamusa
Pierre Calamusa

Team Winamax pro Pierre Calamusa holds one of the bigger stacks in play, however, it just got a little smaller after this hand took place.

Yassine Azouaou opened the action from late position with a raise to 1,200 which Calamusa called from the small blind and Spain's Javier Garcirreynaldos Barral, also known as "Tsunamy" came along for the flop.

Calamusa checked on the {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop. "Tsunamy" bet 6,500, Azouaou folded, and Calamusa called. Both players then checked when the {3-Hearts} created a four-heart board.

Things got slightly more interesting when Calamusa led out for 10,000 when the {7-Clubs} completed the board. "Tsunamy" thought for a second before declaring himself all-in. Calamusa quickly folded shipping a fairly big pot to his opponent.

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

The Day 1c field has passed 400 entrants. It should be close to see whether the 411 mark from last year will beat with a little more than an hour left in the late registration period.

Gaëlle Baumann Down and Up Again

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Gaëlle Baumann (courtesy of Caroline Darcourt)
Gaëlle Baumann (courtesy of Caroline Darcourt)

With blinds at 250/500 and an ante of 50, Gaëlle Baumann opens from late position with {A-Diamonds}{J-}. The button and small blind both call creating a pot of around 4,000 heading into the flop.

The {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} appear on the flop giving Baumann two over cards and a nut-flush draw. She leads out for 2,500, the player from the button calls with the third player check-folding.

The {Q-} on the turn is of no help to Baumann, however, she keeps the aggression on betting 5,500. Her opponent raised to 14,500 which she called. The river didn't help either player with both checking. Baumann was down to about 12,000 chips after he opponent showed top-pair with {K-Diamonds}{q-}.

Shortly afterwards, Baumann doubled up to around 25,000 after she got it all-in with {A-}{8-} which help against her opponents {K-}{Q-}.
