Eyster Runs into it

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Kevin Eyster
Kevin Eyster

With two limps ahead of him, Kevin Eyster said he was all in from the cutoff. It looked to be about 22,000. The early-position limper jammed over the top and isolated Eyster.

Eyster: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}, no help to the WPT champ.

Gregg Merkow Calls a Shove

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Gregg Merkow called a raise to 4,500 on the button and the flop came {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

His opponent went all in for 18,300.

"Already?" Merkow asked, "blind?"

"No, I looked. Nothing I can do now," his opponent replied.

Merkow called and showed {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, which was ahead of the {a-Spades}{4-Hearts} of his opponent.

Merkow would go on to win the hand when the board came {8-Clubs} on the turn and {2-Spades} on the river.

Chris Staats Invokes a Hellmuth-Esque Response From Mike Dentale

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Mike Dentale limped under the gun and Chris Staats raised in position to 4,000. Dentale called.

The flop came {10-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} and both players checked. The turn was the {4-Clubs} and Dentale led for 6,000. Staats called.

The river was the {a-Hearts} and Dentale bet 8,000. Staats called quickly.

"Nice catch," Dentale said showing {j-}{10-} expecting to be shown an ace from Staats.

Staats indeed showed an ace, holding {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

Dentale questioned the call on the turn with no spade and only drawing to an ace. He then seemed to look forward to playing future pots together.

"You got a lot of chips, better hope we're not at the same table," Dentale said.

Staats didn't respond and just stacked the chips, while a nearby friend came over and made a joke about Staats turning into Teen Wolf.

Lucky Double for Kessler

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

After an under-the-gun open, Allen Kessler shoved all in from the small blind for 21,600. The big blind reshipped and chased away the opener.

"Uh-oh," Kessler said. "I was playing him, I didn't want to play you."

Kessler: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Big blind: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Kessler was right to be worried, but the {7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} paired his kicker to give him the lead. He was still fading jacks and aces but the {3-Clubs} turn and {2-Hearts} river were safe for "Chainsaw."

Have You Thought About Checking?

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Alex Greenblatt opened to 3,500 and Gary Widener called in position. The two were heads up to the {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop. Greenblatt led for 6,000.

"Have you thought about checking?" asked Widener before eventually calling.

The turn was the {j-Clubs} and both players checked. The river was the {2-Hearts} and Greenblatt bet 18,000. Widener called and won the hand with a set of twos, showing {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}.

Greenblatt had {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}.

Mike Dentale Outflips Grant Hinkle

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Grant Hinkle shoved all in from under the gun and Mike Dentale called for the 21,400. Hinkle showed pocket threes, {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, and Dentale showed {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}.

Dentale slid Hinkle's money back to him, but when the flop came queen-high, Hinkle pushed the money back to Dentale. It would stay there and Hinkle would be eliminated.

Dentale is now approaching 200,000 shortly after booking a last longer bet with a third-party about whether he would outlast Chris Staats.

Gary Otake Busts One

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The player under the gun opened to 5,000 and the action fell to Gary Otake in the small blind. He raised to 16,000. Mike Dentale was in the big blind and looked like he had a tough decision.

He took about 40 seconds and eventually said, "fold."

Even after that he seemed reluctant to give the hand up. The original raiser went all in for about 35,000 and Otake called. Otake was in the lead with pocket kings against pocket queens.

Dentale said he folded pocket tens and was calling for a ten as the board ran out. Otake's kings stayed ahead and even improved with a king on the river. Otake earned the elimination right before the players headed to another 15-minute break.
