Welcome to Day 2 of the 2019 WinStar Labor Day River Poker Series!

Daniel Lu
Daniel Lu

Three starting flights have come and gone at the 2019 WinStar Labor Day River Poker Series $1,500 Main Event, and from 1,242 entrants, only 151 players return today for Day 2 action, all of whom will be in the money from the start of the day's play.

Day 1a chip leader Daniel Lu assumes the overall chip lead at the start of the day, with his 658,000 chips leading the way. Lu already has one healthy cash in the series so far, finishing in seventh in Event #1: $500 No Limit Hold'em for $12,965, and will be looking to replicate his success with over 100 big blinds to begin the day. He's followed by Day 1b chip leader Quan Donot Nguyen (619,000), Spencer Champlin (604,500), James Mordue (566,000), and Day 1c chip leader Troy Stidd in the top five.

The defending champ of this event, Will Pengelly, returns with a healthy stack of 284,000, and is joined by Brian Lee (422,000), Will Berry (247,000), WinStar World Ambassador Maria Ho (192,000), Kelly Minkin (85,000), and Ray Henson (79,000) as some of the notables hoping to make their way through to Day 3 and be one step closer to taking down the Main Event title.

Action for Day 2 will resume at Level 16 (3,000/6,000/6,000) with blinds increasing to 60-minutes in length for the duration of the tournament. There will be a 15-minute break every two levels, and a 45-minute dinner break after six levels of play. Play will conclude when the final table is reached or ten full levels have been played, whichever comes first.

A $1,763,640 prize pool is up fro grabs, easily besting the $1,500,000 Guarantee on the Main Event. All players are guaranteed $2,645, but all eyes will be on the top prize of $300,005. A full list of payouts can be found in the "Payouts" tab.

Be sure to follow along with us at PokerNews as we make our way down towards the final table here at the WinStar World Casino and Resort!

Mordue Knocks Out Sengphet

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
La Sengphet
La Sengphet

La Sengphet was recently seen standing at the payout desk in talks with a floor man. Moments later, James Mordue had confirmed she was eliminated. He said that he was the culprit of her bust out after the two found themselves next to one another on the Day 2 seat draw.

According to Mordue, action was folded to him in the small blind and he completed without checking his cards. Sengphet went all in, prompting him to see what he had. He quickly called.

La Sengphet: {k-}{q-}
James Mordue: {k-}{k-}

Mordue woke up with two kings and found himself in great shape to knock Sengphet out of the tournament on the first level of the day. The board ran out {8-}{3-}{2-}{5-}{7-} to send Sengphet to the rail, bringing Mordue near 700,000 in chips in the process.

Barker Nets a Huge Double Through Day 1c Chip Leader Stidd

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Chuck Barker in Day 1c action
Chuck Barker in Day 1c action

Chuck Barker checked a {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop from the small blind, as did Brandon Guzman in the big blind. Troy Stidd bet 25,000 on the button, and Barker check-raised to 75,000. Guzman folded and Stidd called.

Barker bet 125,000 on the {8-Clubs} turn, and Stidd jammed to put Barker at risk for his last 252,000. Barker immediately called.

Chuck Barker: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Troy Stidd: {q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}

Stidd winced as he saw his queen-high straight was crushed by the king-high straight of Barker, and after the {7-Hearts} river, Stidd was forced to pay off around half his remaining stack to Barker.

Bogard Can't Get There on Bunch

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Bart Bogard
Bart Bogard

Anthony "Bart" Bogard had his last 29,000 in chips in the pot from the big blind, and Eric Bunch had him at risk in middle position.

Anthony "Bart" Bogard: {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Eric Bunch: {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Bogard added a gutshot straight draw to his live cards on the {6-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} flop, but he would find no help on the {3-Diamonds} turn or {k-Diamonds} river to bust.

Garg Busted After Roller Coaster of a Hand

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Lokesh Garg
Lokesh Garg

Lokesh Garg, Andy Hobson, and Tim Gilliam were all three all-in preflop, with Garg in for 50,000 from middle position, Gilliam in for 61,000 from the small blind, and Hobson had both of them at risk from the hijack.

Lokesh Garg: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Tim Gilliam: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Andy Hobson: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Gilliam held on the {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{j-Spades} flop, but the {a-Spades} turn gave both Garg and Hobson top pair, and also gave Garg the nut flush draw. Gilliam found lightning in a bottle when the {7-Diamonds} hit the river, however, and he took down the pot to nearly triple up, while Garg was busted and Hobson was left short.

Katherine Offutt in Day 1c action
Katherine Offutt in Day 1c action

Steven McCartney bet 16,000 into a pot of 50,000 on a {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts} flop from early position, and Katherine Offutt made the call in middle position.

McCartney slowed down and checked the {2-Hearts} turn, and Offutt bet 24,000. McCartney called.

Both players checked the {5-Diamonds} river, and Offutt tabled {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for top pair, top kicker. McCartney mucked.

A Payne-ful Finish; Alagha Breaks Seven Figures

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Bobby Payne
Bobby Payne

Bobby Payne was heard letting out a painful-sounding groan while the cards were being run in a hand that would be the last of his tournament. Hesam Alagha was the one to knock him out and recapped the hand shortly after its conclusion.

Alagha opened to 26,000 from the cutoff and Bobby Payne three-bet to 76,000 from one of the blinds. Alagha put him in for about 200,000 more and Payne called.

Bobby Payne: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Hesam Alagha: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The board ran out {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} to give Alagha a set of tens, topping Payne's set of kings and sending him to the rail along the way. With the pot, Alagha now boasts a stack of 1.137 million and appears to be the first player to break seven figures in the tournament.

Van Ho
Van Ho

Pamela Belote jammed for 195,000 from early position, and Van Ho called off his last 170,000 next to act.

Van Ho: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Pamela Belote: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

Belote would hold on after a {8-Clubs}{k-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades} board, and Ho busted.

"Whew, I normally don't just shove on a drawing hand!" an elated Belote said after the hand.

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Will Pengelly in previous action
Will Pengelly in previous action

A blind versus blind battle saw Will Pengelly get his last 255,000 in from the small blind on a {2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop, and Scott Squyres called in the big blind.

Will Pengelly: {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Scott Squyres: {9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

A cooler flop saw both players make two pair, but Pengelly's top two would hold for the double after a {7-Spades} turn and {j-Hearts} river.

"Let's go baby! Back to back, please!" Pengelly said after his double.
