Welcome to Day 2 of the 2019 WinStar Labor Day River Poker Series!

Daniel Lu
Daniel Lu

Three starting flights have come and gone at the 2019 WinStar Labor Day River Poker Series $1,500 Main Event, and from 1,242 entrants, only 151 players return today for Day 2 action, all of whom will be in the money from the start of the day's play.

Day 1a chip leader Daniel Lu assumes the overall chip lead at the start of the day, with his 658,000 chips leading the way. Lu already has one healthy cash in the series so far, finishing in seventh in Event #1: $500 No Limit Hold'em for $12,965, and will be looking to replicate his success with over 100 big blinds to begin the day. He's followed by Day 1b chip leader Quan Donot Nguyen (619,000), Spencer Champlin (604,500), James Mordue (566,000), and Day 1c chip leader Troy Stidd in the top five.

The defending champ of this event, Will Pengelly, returns with a healthy stack of 284,000, and is joined by Brian Lee (422,000), Will Berry (247,000), WinStar World Ambassador Maria Ho (192,000), Kelly Minkin (85,000), and Ray Henson (79,000) as some of the notables hoping to make their way through to Day 3 and be one step closer to taking down the Main Event title.

Action for Day 2 will resume at Level 16 (3,000/6,000/6,000) with blinds increasing to 60-minutes in length for the duration of the tournament. There will be a 15-minute break every two levels, and a 45-minute dinner break after six levels of play. Play will conclude when the final table is reached or ten full levels have been played, whichever comes first.

A $1,763,640 prize pool is up fro grabs, easily besting the $1,500,000 Guarantee on the Main Event. All players are guaranteed $2,645, but all eyes will be on the top prize of $300,005. A full list of payouts can be found in the "Payouts" tab.

Be sure to follow along with us at PokerNews as we make our way down towards the final table here at the WinStar World Casino and Resort!

Sehgal Wins One Early

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Brian Lee opened to 13,000 in early position and Amit Sehgal called from his direct left. Action folded around to the hijack, who called as well. The big blind defended to take action four ways postflop.

All four players checked the flop {j-Clubs}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}. The turn came {8-Diamonds} and the big blind checked. Lee bet 20,000 and received a call from Sehgal. Both remaining players folded and the river fell {9-Hearts}, where both Lee and Sehgal checked through to showdown.

Lee tabled {2-Clubs}{2-Spades} for a pair of deuces and Sehgal showed {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, taking down the pot with his pair of jacks and adding to his stack early on Day 2.

Copp Gets an Early Double

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Keith Copp reraised all in from the small blind over an open to 12,000 from the player on the button. He received a call and the hands were tabled.

Keith Copp: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The two were off to the races as the dealer brought a flop of {9-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}, leaving Copp out in front. The turn {9-Hearts} and river {4-Spades} would ensure his hand stayed best and he pushed his stack forward to be counted. It was totaled to be 172,000 and his opponent paid it off, bringing his new total to just over 350,000.

Araya bet 16,000 on the {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} flop, and Gilbralter called.

Both players checked the {8-Spades} turn, and Araya bet 40,000 on the {5-Spades} river. Gilbralter thought for just a moment before letting his hand go.

Coker Runs Into Liu's Kings

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Jeremy Liu raised to 15,000 from the cutoff, and Hesam Alagha three-bet to 70,000 on the button. David Coker four-bet shoved for 83,000, and Liu five-bet jammed for 200,000, chasing out Alagha.

David Coker: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Jeremy Liu: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Liu's kings improved to a set on the {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop, and Coker headed to the payout desk after the {7-Clubs} turn and {10-Diamonds} river bricked off.
