We arrived at the table as Marc Etienne Mclaughlin was making a call of 15,000 on the river of a board. Carla Sabini had made the bet and Samuel Tsehai had flatted.
Sabini tabled a pair of kings forcing Tsehai to muck but Mclaughlin had Sabini out-kicked turning over to scoop the pot.
The 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Jonathan Duhamel was enjoying a good start to the day until he ran into Yannick Harvey.
We approached the table as the dealer was cutting down Harvey' stack. In front of them lay a board and sat face-up beside Harvey. Duhamel's cards had already been flipped over but an all-in plaque in front of both players told the story.
Harvey's all-in was for about 97,000 and Duhamel paid the price.
A blind versus blind battle between Ha Van Nugyen and Laurence Grondin escalated quickly on the turn of a board.
Nguyen lead with a bet of 2,000 and Grondin raised, making it 6,500. Nguyen called bringing the on the river.
Nguyen checked and Grondin bet 11,000. Nguyen starred Grondin down and threw out a raise of 31,000. Grondin didn't take long making the call and Nguyen tabled for a flush and Grondin mucked.
Marc-Etienne Mclaughlin, Carla Sabini and Khaly Dang all paid 4,300 to see a flop. Mclaughlin and Sabini checked and Dang bet 5,600. Mclaughlin folded and Sabini called.
The fell on the turn and Sabini lead with a bet of 11,000. Dang raised all-in having Sabini covered and Sabini quickly stacked her chips and slid them forward.
Dang:
Sabini:
Both ladies had flopped flushes and Sabini was drawing to the ten of clubs to take the pot but the river bricked and Sabini was eliminated.
Every Friday during the World Cup of Cards is Golden Ticket Fridays here at Playground Poker Club. All day long a wheel spins, landing on a specific high-hand. The first player to make the high-hand gets to pick from 10 prize boxes with various rewards inside including partypoker Powerfest tickets, live event satellite tickets, and more.
Anyone who earns a Golden Ticket gets a raffle ticket and this morning a draw for a $10,000 partypoker Caribbean Poker Party package took place.
The winner was Michael Korovine. Korovine is in play today but is unfortunately on his second bullet, busting his initial starting stack earlier in the day.
We got to the action as a massive pot was brewing over on Table 58. In a four-bet pot with about 75,000 in the middle, on a board reading , Yannick Harvey led out for 28,000 from the small blind. Armand 'Oyster King' King was on the button and re-raised to 80,900. Harvey thought for a moment and moved all-in. King had about 73,000 behind, and after a minute of reflection he called.
Armand King:
Yannick Harvey:
King was way behind and admitted he knew it but couldn't fold.
The turn was the and King yelled out, "Yyyyyesssss!" as he turned a set of queens. The river was the and King held to win a massive pot worth over 270 big blinds. "I knew I was behind, but you have to hit those sometimes" said an enthused King.
Alyssa MacDonald was at the table and comforted a visibly disappointed Harvey. "I know it sucks, but you still have a lot of chips to play with. Just don't run bad, that's all." Sage words of encouragement and advice from the World Cup of Cards champion!
Just as Level 8 was beginning, 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Ryan Riess strolled in to take his seat in this event today.
Riess is fresh off a win in Barcelona after shipping the €10,200 No Limit Hold'em High Roller for €155,500 for his fourth career win. 'Riess the Beast' added to his more than $10 million in career earnings, with his $8,361,570 win in the 2013 WSOP Main Event being his top score.
The champ only has two cashes in Canada so far, with one of them being in May earlier this year at the partypoker MILLIONS event, so look for Riess to turn it on and gun for a big win on Canadian soil.
Armand 'Oyster King' King raised to 5,500 from under the gun and got calls from Senthuran Vijayaratnam on the button and Sam Gottiparthi in the small blind.
The flop came and all three players checked to the on the turn. Gottiparthi checked and King bet 21,500. Vijayaratnam was next to act and raised to 50,000. Gottiparthi folded and King moved all-in. Vijayaratnam called.
King quickly tabled for a set of threes and Vijayaratnam disappointingly tabled for a pair of aces. "I'm drawing dead" said Vijayaratnam as he got up from his seat.
The river was the insignificant and King raked in the pot while Vijayaratnam hit the rail.
