Slow Start For "ElkY"

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier has already got it into a 4-bet pot against Gilles Boulengers' re-reraise from the cutoff.

"ElkY" called a bet of 3,500 on the {Q-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {7-Clubs} flop before the {5-Hearts} turn and {A-Diamonds} river were checked down. Boulenger showed {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and the maverick Frenchman simply mucked his hand as a result.

Boich-ed Job

Alexander Roumeliotis was staring at a {Q-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {3-Spades} {6-Diamonds} board in a big pot against Voislav Boich. The young Swede who had gone deep in San Remo, slid out a bet of 5,075 and got a quick shrug/call combination, Roumeliotis flipped over a very nutty {K-Spades} {10-Diamonds} leaving Boich frustrated, the latter flashing {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} into the muck.

Layani Leading

Jonathan Layani has doubled his starting stack and Table Four seems to be missing Bjorn Verbakel, so I'm guessing early elimination. The table is one of the chatty ones with some doing more than the others, Dominykas Karmazinas being one of the leaders in this department if not in the stack one.

"I want to be the second to bust, not the first," he noted chirpily (he's on 11,150 so not at death's door exactly), "At least you don't come last."

"It's more fun to tell the story if you're the first one though," said Thomas Nielsen, before continuing getting to know his opponent, his plans for the Series, his affiliations and players. While the atmosphere is unrelentingly friendly over there, it doesn't stop the chips going in and pots being fought over. Karmazinas found Nielsen calling another of his preflop raises, and asked him, "Are you some kind of bounty I don't know about?"

Eames Is A Little Rahal-scal

John "Johnes147" Eames was heads-up in a pot against Antoine Rahal. Eames fired out 700 on the {A-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} flop and was quickly called by his elder French opponent.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and Eames bet 1,600 again getting a very quick call from Rahal. The river was the {A-Diamonds} and Eames decided to check, Rahal then checked behind and a disappointed Eames showed {A-Spades} {6-Spades}, clearly thinking his opponent had an ace and intended to bet it.

Eric Leaves Bichon The Sad 'Oun

Four-way to the flop and Thomas Bichon fired out 850 on the {10-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} flop with Eric Sadoun the only caller. Bichon slid out a bet of 2,050 on the {Q-Clubs} turn but Sadoun responded by raising to 6,050.

The WPT Cyprus winner made the call and then tank-called another 7,000 on the {A-Hearts} river but had to muck when Sadoun showed him {5-Spades} {5-Hearts} for a funky flopped set.

Lopes Piqued

A spade is 'pique' over here (the dealers' announcements of the cards, and most of the table talk is in French, so you get an immersion in French-For-Poker-Players for a week playing this event), and a surfeit of these just gave Angelo Besnainou a medium-sized pot while spurring Bruno Lopes to get up out of his chair (very briefly) in frustration:

Preflop fourway without a raise, the flop came {K-Spades} {J-Spades} {8-Spades}. Lopes bet straight out of the small blind 250, and Besnainou, who'd limped in preflop under the gun, made it 1,000 total. The others lost interest at this point, so the two of them saw the {9-Hearts} turn. Now it went check-check bringing the {10-Spades} on the river. Lopes now checked again, and Besnainou quickly bet 2,500, called just as quickly but with a bit of a lemon-sucking expression of reluctance. His misgivings were proven justified, as Besnainou turned over {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} out-flushing Lopes' {9-Spades} {5-Spades}.

Not So Fabulous

Another big multiway pot and Phu Troung led out for 1,800 on the {A-Hearts} {9-Spades} {7-Clubs} flop. Fabrice Soulier was the only caller and the turn was the {A-Spades}. Troung now checked and Soulier bet 2,600 to which Troung responded with a speedy call.

The river was the {K-Clubs} and this time Troung led out, but only for a very small 1,600. Soulier quickly raised to 6,000 and Troung tanked before calling.

"You got it..." Soulier said, mucking his cards. Troung turned over {A-Clubs} {J-Spades} to win the pot.

Who's Wearing What?

It's not exactly the red carpet, but the players are playing on a somewhat red-colored felt... Whatever the case we ran around the room getting some snaps so you can get an idea of how everyone's looking here in Paris today.
