Ates Hikmet Wins LEI Main Event After ICM Deal in Heads-Up

Level 27 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Ates Hikmet wins LEI Main Event
Ates Hikmet wins LEI Main Event

The World Poker Tour National festival at Noah's Ark Deluxe Hotel & Spa in Bafra, Cyprus, headed into its fifth day and one of the highlights of the tournament schedule was playing down to a winner in the €770 LEI Main Event that attracted a field of 150 entries and generated a prize pool of €100,485. That prize pool slightly eclipsed its guarantee and saw over €20,000 awarded to the winner.

After two days, the field was whittled down to its final nine players, and it was Manig Loeser in the lead at that time.

However, the German struggled very early on the final day and ultimately had to settle for eighth place.

"Ah well, things like this happen," he briefly told PokerNews after his elimination and rather disappointing day at the office.

The podium was set with three players from Turkey after five hours of play, with cash game specialist Mehmet Sinan Ogan bowing out in third after playing his fifth live tournament ever. After that elimination, Ates Hikmet and Serhat Cetiner agreed on an ICM deal, with Hikmet taking home the trophy and a first-place payout of €22,336.

Yuri Kaganovich was the first player on the rail after half an hour of play. In a battle of the blinds, the Russian moved all in with the {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Cetiner called with the {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}. The board ran out {7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, and Kaganovich was gone . Loeser then lost a massive preflop all in with the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} against the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} and was left very short. He doubled up once before failing to find another with the {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} against the {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} with an ace and seven on the flop.

Marko Banovic experienced a similar fate on the table after losing a flip with the {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} against the {J-Clubs}{J-Spades} of Cetiner, and then falling the very next hand in seventh place. Sergey Minaev followed in sixth place after a three-bet pot preflop, when it was his {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} on a flop of {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} that was no good versus Ogan's {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}.

Fuat Tanindi started as one of the shortest stacks coming into the final day, and he laddered up all the way to fifth place. He even got it in ahead with the {K-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} via a three-bet shove only to see Hikmet river a straight with the {J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. Cetiner lost a flip to Ogan before doubling up with the {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades} against the {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} of Yevgeniy Dudos to leave the Russian crippled. Dudos got his remaining chips in with the {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and Cetiner's {A-Spades}{4-Spades} as well as Hikmet's {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} chopped up the pot on a king-high board.

Down to the final three players, Ogan fell behind further and then failed to improve with the {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} versus Hikmet's {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. After that, both remaining opponents called it a day a few minutes later without playing any further hands following an ICM-deal agreement, which is reflected in the payout table below.

Mehmet Sinan Ogan moved all in out of the small blind and Ates Hikmet let go before Ogan would do so again one hand later. This time, Hikmet made the call from the small blind and Serhat Cetiner folded.

Ogan: {K-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}
Hikmet: {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {10-Spades} {6-Hearts} and Ogan will be collecting €12,700 for his efforts shortly.

Short stack Yevgeniy Dudos also had to give up his blinds as well and Ates Hikmet put pressure on Mehmet Sinan Ogan after a flop of {5-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {4-Hearts}. Ogan bet 75,000 and then quickly folded when Hikmet moved all in.

One hand later, Dudos was all in for only 25,000 from the button and both Hikmet as well as Serhat Cetiner in the blinds called. The {7-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {Q-Spades} board was checked through and Dudos was sent to the rail with {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}. Cetiner's {A-Spades} {4-Spades} and Hikmet's {A-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} chopped up the pot.

Fuat Tanindi Eliminated in 5th Place (€6,440)

Level 26 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Fuat Tanindi
Fuat Tanindi

Straight after he had folded the previous hand to an all in, Ates Hikmet got involved again and raised to 70,000 from under the gun. Fuat Tanindi moved all in for just under 500,000 and Hikmet stood up, seriously contemplating a call. He checked the screens for the chip counts and chips in play before announcing the call.

Tanindi: {K-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}
Hikmet: {J-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}

The {10-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {9-Spades} flop gave Hikmet an open ended straight draw and the {9-Hearts} on the turn delivered even more outs. Sure enough the {K-Spades} fell on the river, completing his straight. Tanindi started as one of the shortest stacks and laddered up all the way to fifth place, good for a payday of €6,440.

Sergey Minaev Eliminated in 6th Place (€5,120)

Level 24 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Sergey Minaev
Sergey Minaev

In a battle of the blinds, Sergey Minaev raised preflop from the small blind and then called the 100,000-three-bet of Mehmet Sinan Ogan from one seat over. Minaev check-raised all in after a flop of {5-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} and Ogan snap-called after his bet of 75,000.

Minaev: {9-Clubs} {8-Hearts}
Ogan: {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}

Neither the {K-Diamonds} turn nor the {6-Clubs} river changed anything and Minaev was sent to the payout desk in order to collect €5,120 for his efforts. In the meanwhile, Ogan is back to his bigger stack after losing two all ins against short stacks in the last level.

Manig Loeser Eliminated in 8th Place (€3,265)

Level 23 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Manig Loeser
Manig Loeser

Shortly after his double up, Manig Loeser was all in from under the gun and Ates Hikmet called from the cutoff, all players behind folded.

Loeser: {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}
Hikmet: {7-Hearts} {7-Spades}

The German found an ace, but Hikmet also improved to a set on the {2-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} flop, leaving Loeser to runner-runner outs only in order to stay in the tournament. It was all over by the {5-Clubs} turn and the German already exited the table with the word “good game guys” before heading to the payout desk. The meaningless {J-Diamonds} river completed the board and Loeser receives €3,265 for his efforts.

The action folded to Yuri Kaganovich in the small blind and he moved all in for what looked like just under 200,000.- Serhat Cetiner checked both his hole cards and then announced call.

Cetiner: {8-Spades} {8-Hearts}
Kaganovich: {J-Clubs} {8-Clubs}

The board ran out {7-Hearts} {4-Spades} {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} and Kaganovich was sent to the rail in 9th place for a payday of €2,600.

Manig Loeser

Only nine players from a 150-entry field remain in the World Poker Tour €770 LEI Main Event, and the most well known finalist is leading the pack. Manig Loeser, who already has $1,402,706 in live earnings to his name according to the Hendon Mob, accumulated 736,000 chips thus far. The lead of the German came off a successful coin flip with the {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} against the pocket fours of Atanas Kavrakov, and an ace appeared on the flop to send the Bulgarian to the rail in 11th place.

Fellow countryman and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Simeon Naydenov busted less than 10 spots off the money, as only the first 17 players claimed at least €1,450. Among those who settle for a min-cash was Ahmet Ucali, who took down the Live Events International Cyprus Main Event in August 2014 for a payday of $87,000. All of the remaining nine players have at least €2,600 locked up for their efforts, but all eyes are set on the winner's trophy and first-place payout of €25,070.

The action at the Noah's Ark Deluxe Hotel & Spa in Bafra, Cyprus will resume at 13:00 local time (12:00 CET) with 21:05 minutes left in Level 22 at blinds of 5,000/10,000 and a running ante of 1,000. Each level for the first two days of the tournament lasted 40 minutes, but the duration will increase to 60 minutes per level on the final day.

The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be there to cover all crucial hands until a winner is crowned, so stay tuned and be prepared to enjoy the show.

Then, on Friday, Jan. 23, Day 1a of the partypoker WPT National Cyprus Main Event will kick off with quite a few big names from the international poker circuit expected at the tables. The event features a buy-in of €2,000 with two starting days, a starting stack of 30,000 in chips, and levels of 45 minutes on each Day 1.
