Jiajun Liu returns as the chip leader for Day 1b
Jiajun Liu returns as the chip leader for Day 1b

Similar to the opening flight of the 2025 WPT Prime Thailand Exhibition Championship Event, the 37,000 Baht flagship tournament was buzzing with action on the sixth floor of the Emsphere Mall on the bustling Sukhumvit Road. With Day 1a coming to a conclusion, the waiting line at the registration desk took a while to settle but brought with it an even bigger field of 663 entries once the registration had closed at the start of level ten.

Upon completion of level 15, only 154 players bagged up chips and a duo separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Jiajun Liu bagged up an incredible 742,000 in chips and the only one somewhat close was Chi Wei Lo who scored a memorable triple knockout with ace-king against three lower pairs to make it through with 604,000.

Held in cooperation between PokerTalk Thailand and WPTGlobal, the first-ever government approved live poker event in the Kingdom of Thailand has now already reached nearly 1,200 entries and another two starting days are to follow to further boost that already impressive figure for the debut at UOB LIVE in the heart of Bangkok.

Among the notable big stacks returning at noon local time are Bo Ouyang (428,000), Shaoming Li (409,000), former EPT Barcelona Main Event finalist Jianwei Lin (357,000), Alex Wice (339,000), Philippe Clerc (308,000), and Vincent Chauve (217,000).

Similar to Day 1a, the action will resume with level 16 at blinds of 4,000-8,000 and a big blind ante of 8,000. As many 20-minute levels will be played to reach the top 12.5% of the field with 83 survivors as the target. However, players must bag up chips to secure a portion of the prize pool in form of travel funds.

When the cards go back in the air at noon local time for the conclusion of Day 1b, many of those who failed the previous day may already be waiting for their seat assignments as Day 1c is scheduled to kick off at the same time. The penultimate flight is expected to be busy once more and will be followed by Day 1d at 4 p.m. local time. Both of these heats will play to the money today and all Day 1 survivors then return on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. local time.

The PokerNews updates for today will focus on the conclusion of Day 1b first before switching to Day 1c, with final chip counts for the last flight to be provided later at night.

Minh Thang Tran was spotted on the way out of the tournament and he could not beat the AJ of Ciaran Farrell on a board of 744JK to bow out.

Next to bust was Shicheng Ji when he got it in with K6 and was isolated by Li-Chen Tsai with the AJ in the small blind. The 832A8 board left Ji drawing dead on the turn.

Viney Singal open-jammed for 78,000 with the A9 and was looked up by Clement Cure who had the KK.

Mothes Off to a Good Start

Level 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Pierre Mothes
Pierre Mothes

Pau Sanroma got his chips in with the K5 but found no help for around ten blinds against the JJ of Pierre Mothes on a board of QJ4K3. The latter had started the day among the shorter stacks but since tripled what he began with.

One hand later, Manabu Sato raised to 20,000 and Mothes called on the button. Chi Thanh Duong three-bet to 95,000 in the small blind and forced out both opponents.
