Roothlus Beat

After some bet-jockeying preflop, Adam "Roothlus" Levy, another player and Mikhail Karasoulis get it all in. Roothlus and the other player both hold A-Q (Roothlus {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}) and Mikhail turns {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The board is {4-Spades}{J-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Mikhail takes out two players. He's up at about 55,000 and is our new chipleader.

The Nisan Cohen - Chris Moneymaker Show

Nisan Cohen and Chris Moneymaker have been taking turns running their table.

Moneymaker raises to 1100 in the 2 spot. Nisan shoves for 57,000 more. After a count, Moneymaker folds.
"Oh, come on! Thought you had tens!" says Nisan.
"Nope," Moneymaker says.
"Ace-Jack?" Nisan offers.
Silence.

On the very next hand, Nisan Cohen re-pops all in over the top of a 400 limp and gets no callers. "Nobody calls, I keep doing it. Back to back, same hand!" He turns over {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

The next hand after that, a player in the 5 spot raises 1100. Moneymaker re-raises 3400 in the big blind. The 5 spot calls. The board is {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and Moneymaker checks. The 5 spot bets 2000 and Moneymaker calls. The turn is {A-Clubs}, Moneymaker bets 2000 and the 5 spot finally folds.

Phil Gordon - New Chipleader

From nearly out to dominating the event - and nearly taking out a former chipleader to do it. Here's how:

Mihail Karasoulis limps under the gun. UTG+1 raises to 2900. Phil Gordon and Mihail call. The board is 7-8-3 rainbow. Gordon bets 8,000 and Mihail minraises to 16,000. The third guy folds. Gordon shoves and Mihail calls.

Mihail has 9-10 for the two way straight draw and Gordon has Q-Q. The folder had kings and feared trips. The board does not complete Mihail's straight and Gordon takes a monster pot. He's at 98,000 and Mihail is down to a few chips.

Bill Edler, Captain Tom get Potashniked

On a flop of {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, Bryan Potashnik bets 5,000 and Captain Tom Franklin calls. Bill Edler re-raises for 14,500 more. Potashnik calls for 12,500 all-in and Captain Tom also calls. Bill Edler shows K-Q, Captain Tom has {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Potashnik has 6-6. The {4-Hearts} turn gives Potashnik sixes full and Captain Tom a gutshot straight flush draw - a single out that doesn't come. Potashnik is up to 90,000 and Bill Edler is out.

Jeff Rodriguez, Straight Up

Jeff Rodriguez gets it all in with another player on a board of {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Rodriguez shows {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the open ended straight flush draw and the other player shows {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the overflush draw. The turn is the {A-Hearts} for the nut flush, but the river is the {3-Hearts}, giving Rodriguez his two outer, the straight flush. The other guy is out.
