Fish Bluffed

Darryll Fish
Darryll Fish
Chuck Kelley raises to 4,800 from early position. Darryll Fish places a chip on his card and then thinks for a moment before making the call from middle position.

Both players see the flop of {7-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Kelley comes out with a bet of 8,000. Fish thinks more a minute before counting out eight orange chips to make the call. He places them in the middle.

Kelley checks the turn when the {4-Clubs} is placed on the felt. Fish decides to take action with a 16,000 chip bet. Kelley contemplates for a minute or two before Fish asks what he is thinking.

Kelley responds, "I think you got a big one, like queens or kings. Heck, maybe even aces. I can't beat queens, kings, or aces, but I'm thinking about putting you all in."

After a few more moments go by before Kelley declares that he is all in.

Fish is stunned and spikes a small stack of chips on the table in disgust. The minutes tick by as Fish contemplates the decision for his remaining 40,000 chips.

"If you hadn't have said you can't beat those hands and then moved in, I would've called five days ago," mumbles Fish.

Herbie Montalbano chimes in from his short stack with, "At this rate I might make the money."

Fish studies his opponent before looking at his hand one more time and then tossing it into the middle face up for the fold. "You're either the biggest idiot or the biggest idiot," he says. He shows {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Kelley shows his hand as well and Fish is stunned to see the {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the big bluff.

Fish has dropped down to just under 40,000 chips while Kelley has really made a push and is now around 150,000.

Table Talk

There has been a lot of good-natured bantering over on Table 12, particularly between the two big stacks, Timothy Miles and Lou Esposito.

In a recent pot, Miles raises the action to 4,500 and Esposito makes the call from the button. The flop brings {Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, and Miles keeps control by betting 6,500. Without much delay, Esposito matches the bet.

On the turn, the {8-Spades} elicits a check from both players. The river card comes the {J-Hearts}, and both players again check. With no action, Esposito turns up the winning hand, {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

As Esposito rakes in the pot, Miles prods, "Why didn't you bet it?"

"I didn't think you'd pay me anyway," replied Esposito.

"No. But I might have gotten you to fold," quips Miles.

Esposito nods knowingly, and reiterates, "That's why I didn't bet it," as the two share a chuckle.

At the moment, Esposito has about 112,000, while Miles is the big stack in the room, around 154,000.

Pace of Play

This afternoon's action has been progressing at a blistering pace, as we saw 32 players eliminated in the first two hours of play. With 37 players remaining at five tables, the remaining contenders seem to be settling into their seats and the action has slowed noticeably. In fact, it has been close to 20 minutes since we had a player eliminated. When the next player does bust, we will be down to four tables.

Back From Break

The players are returning from a short break, and we have removed one more table from the field. We are down to 36 players on four tables, as we move to Level 10.

Fratter Doubles

In the first hand after the break, Marc Fratter moves all in from under the gun for a total of 33,800. Lou Esposito thinks for a while, or maybe he was just asleep from the massage he is currently getting. Either way, he makes the call after a minute.

Jon Nathan then tanks for a moment and asks Esposito how much he has left jokingly before folding. The rest of the players fold as well and it's Fratter's {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} in a coinflip with Esposito's {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

The flop is an improvement for Fratter as it comes {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs}. The turn is the {K-Diamonds} and the river is the {7-Hearts}.

Fratter has successfully doubled up to 70,000. Esposito has dropped to 74,000.
