Welcome Back to Council Bluffs

Good morning once again from the quaint suburb of Council Bluffs, Iowa for PokerNews' continuing coverage of the WSOP Circuit Championship Event. We're back in the Whiskey Roadhouse inside the Horseshoe Casino, where 30 players will soon take their places to fight their way towards the final table.

Sixty-seven runners began play at this time yesterday, and one by one, they were slowly ground out of the field as the night wore on. Just fewer than half of them earned their tickets to Day 2, and just nine of those 30 will reserve a seat at tomorrow's final table.

Jeff Banghart chipped his way up the board steadily yesterday, and he bagged up the most checks when the clock struck zero last night. Banghart is a force to be reckoned with, and he'll be the handicapping favorite today. Still, a number of notables are still in contention, including Ari Engel, Va Shon Watkins, Mark Eddleman, Wilbur Futhey, and Poker Battle Warrior Eric Stiglets.

Play picks up in a little more than a half hour -- at 12:00 noon local time -- so join us back here then for all of the Day 2 action!

Larry Loose Eliminated

Shortly after Taylor's elimination, the same table saw another player bust. This time it was Larry Loose. Loose moved all in with {K-?} {J-?} and ran into a player's {A-?} {Q-?}. Ace high was the winning hand after all five cards were dealt across the flop and Loose was eliminated.

The remaining 27 players are now redrawing for the final three tables.

Kevin Culjat Eliminated

Joaquin Sosa opened up the action with a raise to 3,500. Jesse Hale made the call behind Sosa and then action folded around to Kevin Culjat in the big blind. Culjat moved all in for 9,200 total. Sosa elected to fold, but Hale made the call.

Hale held pocket sixes against Culjat's {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}. The flop came down {J-Spades} {10-Spades} {5-Hearts}, giving Culjat some more straight outs to go with his two overcards.

The turn came the {8-Diamonds} and gave him even more outs, but the river fell a blank with the {3-Clubs}. Culjat wished everyone good luck and exited the Whiskey Roadhouse.

So Long, Stiglets

Eric Stiglets - eliminated
Eric Stiglets - eliminated
Looking down at {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} in early position, Eric Stiglets made his stand, moving all in for just about 14,000 chips. Action passed around the table to Joaquin Sosa, and he made the call, having Stiglets well-covered. One or two players down the line appeared to be considering the call as well, but everyone yielded, allowing Sosa and Stiglets to play it heads up.

When the betting was close, Stiglets pleaded, "Please have ace-king." He had half of it right, but Sosa rolled over the {K-Diamonds} and the {K-Spades}, having the Poker Battle Warrior dominated and at risk of elimination.

The board was a big dry desert for Stiglets as it ran down {10-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}. Sosa improved to a flush, knocking off the mild-tempered pro in the process.

Just 25 players remain.
