Yesterday, the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event kicked-off at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana with 289 entrants, all competing for the $99,878 first-place prize. Today, 66 players will return for Day 2 as we play to through the money bubble (the top 30 players will be paid) and on down to the final table.
Yesterday saw a number of notable names take their shot at a Circuit ring. Dwyte Pilgrim, the WSOP Circuit phenom and recent World Poker Tour winner, was looking to add to his Player of the Year total, but failed to survive the day. Also making appearances and ultimately their own exit were TJ Cloutier, Lee Childs, Mark Kroon and Maurice Hawkins. On the other side of things, Circuit gold ring holder Kyle Knecht, WSOP gold bracelet winner Robert Cheung, Circuit regulars Ari Engel and Drazen Ilich will all see action on Day 2. Joining them is perhaps the biggest story of the day, Shiva Dudani.
Dudani, who came second to Blair Hinkle at the Circuit event in Council Bluffs, Iowa, won a ring in a preliminary event here at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana and is looking to add to his points total for the WSOP-C National Championship race, where he currently sits in first place with 125 points. Dudani is currently sitting with an above average stack, but still trails our chip leader, Jorge Solorzano with 294,700 in chips. Close behind is Miguel Borrero with 261,000 in chips. Sickmeir Chips Up
On a board reading 
, Charlie Sickmeir checked from the small blind and his opponent threw out a bet of 20,000. Sickmeir then check-raised to 55,000 and his opponent made the call. The river was the 
and Sickmeir led out with a reasonable bet of 25,000. His opponent called but mucked when Sickmeir turned over 
for a flopped set. Sickmeir is now up to around 250,000.
"Tahoe" Is Out
Howard "Tahoe" Andrew's day has come to a quick end here in the first few minutes of the first level on Day 2. Andrew was all in with pocket kings and up against 
from his opponent. The flop came down 
and Andrew picked up a set to further improve his chances of doubling up. The turn brought a 
and then the dealer did the dirty deed of slapping a 
on the river to give Andrew's opponent a wheel to win the hand and Andrew was sent to the rail.
Ilich Takes a Small Hit
Drazen Ilich raised to 7,400 from early position and received a call from the player in the small blind. Both players checked the 
flop and watched the 
hit the river. The small blind checked to Ilich who opted to bet 8,400.
The small blind made the call and the 
appeared on the river. This time the small blind led out for 14,000 and Ilich looked perplexed. He eyed his chips for a moment before conceding the hand. He is down to about 120,000.
Manley Down
Kevin Manley, who won Event #4 here at the Southern Indiana Circuit and took second in Event #9, got his remaining 46,700 all in preflop with . David Aker made the call with 
and it was off to the races.
The flop came down 
, giving Manley extra outs to a straight. The 
on the turn gave him a ton more outs and the table knew it as they held their collective breath. The dealer burned and put the 
on the river. Aker clapped his hands in celebration as Manley was eliminated from the tournament. He can take solace in the fact that he is the current WSOP-C Southern Indiana event points leader with 87.5 points; however, Steve Kats, Shiva Dudani and Tuan Le, who are all alive in our event, have a chance to surpass Manley depending on how they finish.
