Pegasus Takes One Down

There was about 1,000 in the pot and a board reading {7-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{9-Hearts} when Mark "Pegasus" Smith bet 800 from middle position. The player in the cutoff folded, but both the button and Chris Tryba made the call.

The {3-Clubs} fell on the turn and Chris Tryba checked to Smith, who fired out 3,300. The bet was enough to get his opponents to fold and he took down the pot, increasing his stack to around 21,000 in the process.

Schwertley Takes It Down on the River

Action folded to Brett Schwertley on the button and he raised to 500. The small blind got out of the way while the big blind made the call. The flop came down {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{J-Clubs} and the big blind bet out 700, which Schwertley called.

The big blind continued his aggression by betting 1,050 when the {Q-Hearts} hit the turn. Again Schwertley called and the {5-Diamonds} fell on the river. The big blind decided to slow down with a check and opened the door for a 2,000 bet from Schwertley. The big blind simply mucked his cards while Schwertley jumped back up to 17,000.

Pegasus Flying High

Mark Smith, a professional horse racer/breeder and owner of the largerst privately-owned public utility in Kentucky, goes by the nickname "Pegasus" and has made quite the name for himself on the WSOPC. He has amassed 20 WSOPC cashes amounting to $448,187 and is the unofficial 2009/2010 WSOP Circuit Event Player of the Year.

In addition, Smith holds four gold rings (which is tied for most with Men "The Master" Nguyen) for victories in the following events:

- 2006/2007 Grand Casino Tunica $5,000 NLH Championship ($306,003)
- 2007/2008 Caesars Indiana Event #11 $500 NLH w/rebuys ($36,244)
- 2009/2010 Horseshoe Southern Indiana Event #12 $345 NLH ($10,088)
- 2009/2010 Harrah's Atlantic City Event #3 $340 NLH ($34,649)

If "Pegasus" can pull some magic and win his fifth ring in this Main Event, he will break the tie with Nguyen and become the all-time leading ring winner. He is in good shape to make a run, currently sitting with 42,000.

Dudani's Aces Fall

David Weinstein opened the pot with a raise to 800 from the cutoff. Shiva Dudani called on the button and the player in the small blind popped it to 5,000. Weinstein re-raised all in and a short-stacked Dudani called all in. The small blind had them both covered and called as well.

Dudani: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}
Small Blind: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Weinstein: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {J-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} as Weinstein spiked a queen on the turn to send Dudani to the rail and chip up to about 30,000.

Monkey Business

Action folded to Will "Monkey" Souther on the button and he just limped. The small blind then made it 1,050 and Souther made the call. The flop came down {J-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and the small blind continuation bet 1,000. Souther grabbed a stack of chips and flung them into the pot, amounting to 15,000. The small blind folded and Souther's general demeanor was one of agitation. He is sitting with around 18,000.

Captain Tom's Ship is Sunk

"Captain" Tom Franklin has been pretty quiet today, content to watch a movie on his iPad. That changed recently when he was under the gun and put in a raise to 800. Action folded to the player in the small blind who raised to 1,800. Franklin called and the two watched the flop fall {7-Hearts}{K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

The small blind was first and simply moved all in for 14,250, which barely had Franklin covered. "There are two hands you could have, one I can beat and one I can't," Franklin said. After a minute of thought, Franklin said, "What the heck," and put in the chips.

Franklin: {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Small Blind: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Franklin saw the bad news and said, "I didn't even think of that [hand]." The dealer burned and turned the {5-Spades}. "I need a five or jack," he said, forgetting the last remaining king would give him four of a kind. Sure enough the dealer put out the river making quads . . . for the small blind. It was the {7-Spades} and Franklin was eliminated from the tournament.
