We are six players from the money and everyone seems to know it. Play has tightened considerably as the remaining field realize they're within striking distance of being paid. There is some good news . . . the blinds and antes are about to go up.
After putting in 15,000 each preflop, two players saw a flop of . The player in middle position bet out 22,000 and received a call from Steve Goff in the cutoff. When the dealer burned and turned the , the middle-position player moved all in for 70,000 and Goff quickly called:
Goff:
Middle Position:
The was run out on the river for good measure as Goff chipped up to 500,000.
Action folded to Steve Goff in the cutoff and he promptly raised to 12,500. Aaron Massey was in the small blind and pushed back to the tune of 30,000. Goff gave it some thought before releasing his hand.
Massey, who has shown more than his fair share of bluffs this tournament, flashed and said, "You have all the chips, but I have the heart." He is up to 200,000.
Eli Lowenthal, who started the day among the chip leaders, moved all in preflop for his last 80,000 or so holding and ran straight into the of Terry Stuhldreher. The flop was no help to Lowenthal, but the turn gave him a gut-shot straight draw. Unfortunately for him, the river was the and he was eliminated from the tournament in 47th place.
Lowenthal's elimination brings us to the money bubble and tournament officials have begun round-for-round play.
Brett Schwertley currently sits atop the 2010-2011 WSOP-Circuit National Leaderboard with 180 points (eights cashes for $$115,728 and two WSOP-C rings). He has essentially locked up a spot in the National Championship with that many points, but just for good measure he'll be adding to it today. We recently spotted Schwertley in our Main Event.
We should have noticed sooner, but we blame his hat and hoodie combination that make him inconspicuous. He is sitting with 145,000 on the money bubble and unless something drastic occurs, he'll make the money and earn some more points.
Each of the remaining six tables have completed a round of play and we still have 46 players. Since no eliminations have occurred, each table will repeat the process and play another round.
As we all know, these money bubbles can be long and grueling. This one seems to be no different as the big stacks aren't mixing it up much; in fact, some have left the tournament area completely and are fine being blinded off for a bit.
