Day 2 Started

Paul Bianchi & Mike Scarborough Lead the Field of 342 Headed Into Day 2

Mike Scarborough enters the day with the second largest stack.
Mike Scarborough enters the day with the second largest stack.

For the past two days, the World Series of Poker Circuit Hammond conducted two separate starting days for the prestigious $1,600 Main Event. The combined field of 1,615 smashed last year's turnout of 872 players, and created a prize pool worth $2,349,825, which will be distributed among the top 171 players with $393,584 reserved for first.

The two players best position to capture that title are the respective chip leaders of Days 1a and 1b: Paul Bianchi (358,000) and Mike Scarborough (324,500). Some other notables you can expect in action today are “Captain” Tom Franklin, Eddie Blumenthal, Mark “P0ker H0” Kroon, Eric Bair, Nadya Magnus, Eric Crain, Dwyte Pilgrim, Chad Brown, Josh Brikis, Mohsin Charania and Kenny Nguyen.

In just over an hour, the 158 Day 1b survivors will join the 184 players Day 1a survivors as the final 342 work their way past the money bubble and toward the final table. The plan is to play down to the final nine, although we doubt that'll happen. More realistically, we'll get closer to the final three tables. Whatever the case, we're in store for a long day.

As always, you can follow all the action from Hammond right here as our Live Reporting Team brings you all the hands, action, and eliminations on the way to crowning the latest WSOP-Circuit Main Event champion.

Blind vs. Blind Ends in Bustout

We happened upon this hand with a 45,000 pot and the board showing {A-Spades} {3-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {3-Spades}. Alex Leitzes checked from the small blind and the player in the big blind moved all in for 66,500. Leitzes spent a short while thinking before he made the call.

Leitzes: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}
Big Blind: {A-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}

The river helped no one when it came {2-Clubs} and Leitzes crossed the 200,000 mark.

Scarborough Bets a Powder Blue

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Four players created a pot worth 34,000 and took a flop of {3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Both the blinds and a player in middle position checked to the Day 1b chip leader, Mike Scarborough, who bet out 26,500, which included a new baby-blue T25,000 chip. "I bet a powder blue, boys. Must mean something," Scarborough deadpanned. His opponents must have believed him as one by one they folded.

We also noted that Tom Luce, one of the bigger stacks in the room, is seated at Scarborough's table. That means there is some potential to fireworks, although it'll need to happen sooner than later as their table is one of the next few to be broke.
