Hastings Heads North

Jamil Wakil opened with a yellow T25,000 chip in middle position, and Brian Hastings three-bet shoved for 107,000 a few seats over. The big blind tanked for a long while before folding what he said was ace-queen, and Wakil wished Hasings luck as he made the call to put him to the test.

Showdown
Wakil: {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades}
Hastings: {A-Spades} {J-Spades}

The big blind was sick at his fold, realizing that he'd have had both players dominated if he'd joined the fun. It was Hastings in the lead now, though, but his confidence was in question. "Oh, you're so live," he said with a nervous grin. "Good luck. You're gonna win. I mean the whole tournament, not just this hand." The table chuckled together, and it was time to decide Hastings' fate.

Board: {7-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {8-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}

More sickness from Mr. Big Blind while Hastings drags that double-up pot. It moves him back up to 240,000 again, while Wakil takes a little step back under 1.1 million.

"Big Whiskey" Eliminated

David "Big Whiskey" Hank has been entertaining his tablemates for quite a while. Between ordering drinks and talking up a storm, Hank has certainly been a hoot.

Down to about 45,000, Hank picked up aces in middle position and moved all in. "I got it boys! I got it!" Chip leader Roman Valerstein called to put him at risk, but Hank's aces held up much to his amusement. Floorman Dennis stepped in and informed Hank that for disclosing the contents of his hand, he would have to endure a three-hand penalty.

Hank didn't mind too much, spending it on the phone with a friend. However, he probably hopes that penalty was a bit longer. His first hand back at the table would be his last as he ran {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} into the {K-Clubs}{k-Spades} of Rob Williamson. The board ran out {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} to end Hank's run.

Newcombe Leaves

Someone in late position opened the pot with a raise to 26,000, and Chris Deziel three-bet to 71,000 in the small blind. Next door in the big, Matt Newcombe came in from the cold with a four-bet shove for about 180,000 total, give or take. That folded the initial raiser, but Deziel quickly called with the covering stack and a chance at the knockout.

Showdown
Deziel: {A-Clubs} {9-Hearts}
Newcombe: {Q-Spades} {9-Spades}

"Ace-nine, really??" Newcombe asked of Deziel, but it had indeed been the correct play. The board ran out unfavorably for the at-risk player, coming {4-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {A-Spades} {3-Diamonds} to end his day.

Newcombe is out, and Deziel stacks his chips to move up close to the half-million chip mark.

Deziel Dusted

Well, those new chips didn't last long for Chris Deziel. Just a few hands after sending Matt Newcombe on his way, he and Chet Farrell tangled up in a raising war that culminated in Deziel calling a five-bet shove with ace-queen. Farrell had that pipped with ace-king, though, and the board ran out blanks for Deziel's sake.

That's another player sent to the rail, and Farrell is now closing in on the chip lead with his growing stack of about 1.66 million.

Cohen Out in 28th

We were busy writing about that last elimination when we heard the call for the three-table redraw. That means we're down to 27 players, and a quick check of the room finds that we're short one woman. It was our last woman standing, the charming Samantha Cohen, and there's no sign of her anywhere in the redraw madness.

It appears that we've lost Cohen, and our final 27 players are redrawing as we speak.

Harnden Hammers a Double

In early position, Jerry Payne opened the pot with a raise to 27,000, and Jim Harnden three-bet shoved for 271,000 in the big blind. Payne asked for the count and tanked for a bit, considering a call for nearly his full stack, too. After a minute or so, he made the call to put Harnden at risk.

Showdown
Payne: {6-Hearts} {6-Spades}
Harnden: {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts}

The {Q-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts} flop was about as good as it gets for Harnden, flopping top pair and a straight flush draw just for good measure. The turn {Q-Diamonds} improved his hand further, but it essentially changed nothing as XX needed to find one of the two remaining sixes in the deck to earn the knockout.

The river was the {5-Spades}, though, and Harnden has found a big double. It moves him up over 550,000, and Payne is now dangerously short with just around 50,000 chips.

Harris Runs Into Savill's Aces

John Harris opened with a raise in middle position and Sterling Savill three-bet on the button to 68,000. Action folded back to Harris who moved all in for about 235,000, but Savill called instantly and tabled {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}.

Harris was in a world of hurt with {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and was unable to catch up as the board ran out {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}.
