No Flash in the Panitch

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

"Seat open! Table 83!"

Such is the call we've heard a couple of times already since play resumed following the dinner break, with Robert Panitch having been the responsible party in both instances. Those two knockouts have helped catapult Panitch up over the half-million mark in chips, the first player so far to have reached that milestone.

Panitch has already had one deep run this week, having taken runner-up in Event No. 6 ($365 no-limit hold'em, six-handed), and he appears primed at the moment to make another one here.

McKeehen Doubles A Shorty

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Action folded around to a short stack who moved all in for his last 12,500. Joseph McKeehen was next to act on the button, and he put out a raise to 26,000 to isolate. Both blinds folded, and the cards were tabled.

McKeehen: {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

We couldn't have asked for much more of an action flop: {q-Hearts}{k-Spades}{a-Hearts}. It was about as close to a coin flip as you could get, as according to the Pokernews odds calculator, McKeehen was the slightest of underdogs: 48.99% to 50.10% with a small chance of a chop.

The turn brought the {10-Clubs}, and McKeehen was looking to dodge a king, jack, eight, or heart to secure a win in the hand. However, the {7-Hearts} hit the river, giving his opponent the flush. McKeehen looks to have taken a couple hits in the half hour since the dinner break, but he is still plenty healthy with 305,000 chips.

Full House for Prescott

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Allie Prescott raised before the flop, getting a caller in Miguell Borrero. Then Prescott led on all three streets as the board came {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, then {6-Spades}, then {9-Hearts}.

At showdown, Prescott turned over {A-Hearts}{9-Spades} for nines full, better than Borrero's {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. Prescott chips up close to 190,000 after that one, while Borrero slips down to just over 30,000.

From Zeitlin to Ashkenazi (Go the Chips)

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

David Zeitlin was just all in and at risk for his last 40,000 or so with {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} versus Ido Ashkenazi's {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The board came {4-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{K-Hearts}{A-Spades}{K-Spades}, hitting Ashkenazi's hand several times and leaving Zeitlin's pocket tens second-best.

We've lost another player, and now are down to just 63. Nine more eliminations to the money!

Glantz Gets No Callers

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Matt Glantz has seemingly been grinding a shortish stack all day. He's constantly been hovering around 15-25 big blinds, and that hasn't changed as we approach the money bubble. In a recent hand, Hend Matthews opened up the action in middle position to 10,000, and Glantz shoved in the rest of his 63,000. As soon as he made the move, Matthews playfully sighed, shook her head, and ask "again?!". Glantz simply flashed a grin.

When it got back to her, she tanked, and said "I have an ace." The dealer warned her she couldn't reveal the contents of her hand, so she went into silent thinking mode. Eventually, she flashed the {a-Clubs} before folding, and Glantz let her pick one card. She flipped over the {10-Diamonds}.

After that hand, Glantz is up to 83,000, which is still fairly short compared to the rest of the field.

Flop Hits Harder

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

As Matt Glantz wandered over from the neighboring table, Christian Harder open-raised all in for 63,500 from the cutoff seat. As it folded to the blinds, players at the table joked that Glantz was there to coach Harder.

Glantz pointed out there really wasn't much coaching left to be done, as Harder had already made his last decision of the hand. Then he thought of some advice.

"Don't fold," he said with a grin.

As it happened, the small blind reraised all in to chase the big blind, and Harder was at risk with his {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} versus {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. But the {4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop quickly minimized the drama, giving Harder a set, and after the {Q-Hearts} turn and {10-Diamonds} he had earned a needed double-up.

Modlin on the Move

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Ed Modlin, who final tabled the WSOP Circuit Harrah's Atlantic City Main Event back in December (finishing eighth), just earned a hefty double-up to improve his chances at making it to another WSOP-C AC Main Event final table.

All in with {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} versus an opponent's {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, the board came nine-high — {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs} — and Modlin now is up to about a quarter million.

Roller Coaster for Panitch

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Robert Panitch held the post dinner chip lead, but he lost a good chunk of that when he doubled up Greg Masters. However, he just picked off a river bluff that has him back up over 400,000.

The action started with an under the gun limp. Panitch was next to act, and he put out a raise to 14,000. Everyone else got out of the way, but the under the gun player quickly called the raise.

The dealer fanned out a {9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop, and it was checked to Panitch, who fired out 25,000. His opponent made the call, and the turn brought the {8-Clubs}. The same action happened here, with the under the gun player check calling a bet, this time 80,000. The river brought the {j-Diamonds}, and Panitch's opponent decided now was the time to fire. It was a small bet of 40,000, and Panitch snap called as soon as the chips move forward.

His opponent could only table {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for two busted draws, while Panitch showed {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for nines full. After starting the hand less then 300,000, Panitch is now back up to 420,000.
