Clinkscales Doubles Opponent

Rex Clinkscales
Rex Clinkscales

A player open-jammed for his last 18,500 from middle position, and the action folded to Rex Clinkscales in the big blind. He rubbed one carded against the felt, sweated it, then proceeded to do the same with his second card. After confirming the amount of the bet with the dealer, he made the call.

Clinkscales: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}

The flop fell {j-Spades}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}, giving Clinkscales' opponent the lead, and the turn and river bricked {4-Hearts}, {6-Spades} respectively.

Clinkscales slipped to about 126,000 chips.

Fire Up the Complain Saw

Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

For better or worse, right or wrong, Allen Kessler has developed a reputation for complaining. Oftentimes he's right in what he's saying, but he's been known to be overbearing when trying to express his opinion.

With that said, Kessler has brought up an issue with the staff. The plan for the day is to play through Level 17, but Kessler contends (and he's probably right) that at the rate of eliminations less than 10% of the field would remain. That would pose a problem as 10% of a field usually makes the money, but there's still an entire flight left to be played tomorrow.

"I wouldn't go past 72," Kessler warned. The tournament staff assured Kessler that they're aware of the situation and will be keeping a close eye on it. In other words, there a decent chance we won't play all 17 scheduled levels, especially if the eliminations keep happening at such a rapid pace.

Speaking of which, Ray Henson and Gil George have been eliminated from the tournament.

Watson Doubles With Straight Flush

Andrew Watson was faced with a 5,600-chip bet on a flop of {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. He opted to go all in for what looked like 30,000 or so, and his opponent quickly called.

Watson: {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Opponent: {j-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

The turn was the {j-Clubs}, giving Watson's opponent two pair, and Watson started to get out of his seat. He didn't get far however, because the {9-Diamonds} spiked on the river, giving him a straight flush.

"Wow!" a player at the table exclaimed.

Even Watson, a very low key player, was shocked at the sight of the card, and happily stacked his newfound chips.

Mader Sets Up Johnico

Felicia Johnico
Felicia Johnico

Felicia Johnico opened for 3600 from early position and received a call from Phil Mader in middle position. Bobby "Shooter" Hempkins then called from the big blind, and three players took a flop of {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

Hempkins checked, Johnico bet 4,200, and only Mader called, bringing about a turn of {6-Clubs}. This time Johnico slowed down with a check, but then she sprung to life by check-raising all in after Mader bet 6,000. Mader quickly called off for 35,900 and tabled {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, which had Johnico's {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} drawing dead. The meaningless {4-Spades} was put out on the river for good measure, and Johnico watched a good portion of her chips sent to Mader.

Crouching Cody Hidden Chip Stack

When we reached Table 6, Cody Crouch had just doubled with {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} against an unknown hand from an unknown opponent. The board was {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, and there were chips everywhere.

After the dealer cut down all of Crouch's stacks, he determined that the all-in bet was for 77,000. Crouch now has around 150,000 chips.

One Sick Stack

Kevin "1SickDisease" Eyster and an opponent were heads up on a board of {8-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. The player checked, and Eyster fired 38,000 into a pot of around 70,000. His opponent tanked for the better part of two minutes, then folded.

Eyster, who just won two gold jerseys in FTOPS XXI and has nearly $3 million in online tournament earnings, raked in the pot and now has around 220,000 chips.

Keep Diggin, Watson

Andrew Watson has suddenly shot up the charts, and has over 200,000 chips. He almost had more, but he just had his pocket aces cracked by an opponent's {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

Watson opened to 4,000 in middle position, a player three-bet jammed for 17,500 on his left, and Watson snap-called.

Watson: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

"You deserve one," Watson said, alluding the the fact that he's been running hot.

The flop was an interesting one: {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. It gave Watson a set of aces, but his opponent now had a flush draw. The {q-Clubs} on the turn was a brick, but the {5-Hearts} slammed on the river, doubling Watson's opponent.

Watson laughed the bad beat off and he has good reason to smile - he has around 205,000 chips.
